New for the RT SE only

They have added a vibration dampener on the RT SE to help reduce any feed back that might effect the shifting. I've already been asked if this will do anything for the RS but the motor is mounted a lot different on the RT and that is why this was added. Thought this was some good info.

Great info Lamont, thanks for passing this along. I would of asked the same question for the RS.

Now that you mentioned it, I looked under her dress on your 1st RT/SM and that one did have a regular pulley.:dontknow:

I just dropped my #528 off today for initial service. Is this already installed or should I mention it. I just completed a 900 mile run from Southwest Mississippi to LA (LA around here meaning 'Lower Alabama'!) and noticed there was a fair amount of vibration.. bike is too new to know what 'normal' is. (Brother in law rode back seat about 10 miles and said his feet vibrated.)

Found out I do need to set the shocks to max, but otherwise, the RTS runs like the proverbial bat out of heck. Had a good time.:D

Surely you jest. I wish I was half as mechanically competent as you are. Plus the bike is 150 miles away in the shop for initial service. I merely was inquiring as to whether this was something new or something that should be retrofitted.

I dont know when they started shipping with them.

I have not pulled my Spyder apart.

Can the Dampner be seen when a 600 mile service is done??

If so i may try to be they when the dealer does the 600 mile service.

put on some old clothes , grab a flashlight , go lie down beside your bike and look around till you find the sprocket and it will be obvious which one you have .or you could pay your dealer 50 bucks to look , your choice .me , my bike does not have this new sprocket but i think i want one .

My 2010 RT SE was built in April 2010 and it has the vibration dampener. :clap:

If you look in the “What’s New” section of the 2011 RT shop manual, you’ll find a picture of the new “flywheel” (as BRP labels it) with the following explanation:

“What’s New: Primary drive, PTO flywheel. Running change in 2010 to SM5 models. 2010 RT SE5 models all had this system. All 2011 models have this system.”

“Why: To reduce vibration level to riders during acceleration.
Notice: There are also internal changes involved. Do not attempt retrofitting models not equipped with output pulley flywheel.”

The photo shown in the manual matches Lamonster’s photo and matches what is on my 2011 SM5. If you’ve got an early 2010 SM5, you’d best not try to retrofit this.

Now maybe the new 2012's like Lamonster's took this a step further and the flywheel is different from the 2011's but at first glance it looks the same and the explanation in the manual seems to agree with what Lamonster was told, just that it happened about two years earlier. I guess a look at a 2012 manual for part numbers would tell the story. I checked part numbers for 2010 SM and SE versus 2011 SM and SE and they are all the same as detailed in an earlier post. The manual reflects the running change made during 2010 and does not show the earlier part on early 2010 SM5's.

Scratch my comment about "two years earlier". I saw the recent posts and thought this was a current thread. Now I looked at Lamonster's original post date and see it was early 2010. That makes the info he was given totally consistent with the info in the 2011 manual as detailed in the previous note. Probably has no relevance to his new 2012 at all. Sorry about the confusion.
