ISCI Arm Rests Installed - Pics Included

My wife was looking for a good way to help keep our 7 year old son on the back of her Spyder. I already had the back rest, so he would ryde with me most of the time; however, she wants to take her Spyder out with him while I am at work. So, we bought another BRP Rear Sport Rack and Back Rest, for a good deal on EBay, and then called ISCIBilly to order the arm rests.

The arm rests arrived the following day via UPS:

The box was nicely packed with lots of bubble and an envelope on the top:

The envelope contained the installation instructions, parts list, and a SASE with a feedback form inside:

Overall I would say these are a high quality product and should serve our needs quite well. The good thing is they are sturdy enough to last for years and should also work well as our son continues to grow.

The installation was fairly straight forward. It took us quite a bit longer as we also installed the sport rack at the same time.

If anyone else is looking for a set of rear arm rests for their Spyder, I have no problem recommending Billy and the folks at ISCI. :thumbup:

You may want to consider something like this for child passengers (http://www.childridingbelt.com/engprod.htm).

Since I discovered that my lovely bride, son, and daughter have ALL fallen asleep while riding on the back of my motorcycles, I use a jetski passenger grab belt at least on long rides with them.

Thanks for the suggestions, I am definitely going to share those with my wife as well. We have a 56 inch leather belt that we strap around him and us when we ryde, but this actually looks like it may be even better than that. He loves to turn around in the seat and look at the vehicles behind us, bounce up and down in the seat, flap his arms like a bird, and a few other things like that. He has fallen asleep at least once that I am aware of. There weren't any problems, but my wife wanted me to wake him back up.

No sir. The vertical pieces are solid and mount securely to the brackets under the seat.

Yes, the padded sections flip up straight to make it easier for the passenger to get on and off the Spyder. Then they can flip them right back down.

We went for a ryde today, and our 7 year old loved them. Even though they are just about up to his shoulders, I did see him actually using them as arm rests during the trip. I need to get a picture of him doing that and post it for the rest of you to see as well.

Yes, very much so. Really haven't gotten the chance to test them out though cuz it went into the shop the very next week after I installed them and I just got it back yesterday.

I have kept my mouth shut for as long as I have been able. I'm sorry, but I cannot approve of taking a seven year old on a motorcycle, even one as stable as the Spyder. A child who cannot reach the pegs, has exhibited a willingness to ride without holding on, and is not able to pay close attention to the road and ride, due to his lack of experience and tendency to get distracted or bored, should not be a rider, even if you could find safety equipment that fit properly, and armrest his size. This is for his safety...and your peace of mind. I know you want to share the fun and the experience, but if you have an accident and he gets hurt, you would be devastated. Personally, I could never take that chance, no matter how small. A slow ride down the driveway or around a secluded parking lot is one thing, but anything else is tantamount to child endangerment. No disrespect intended, but this is a bad, bad practice! Give him 4-5 years. I beg you to reconsider.

I respect your opinion Scotty, and will also take it under advisement. I may have made it sound like he is a much worse rider than he actually is, but your concerns are understood at the same time. You are also right that it would be devestating if anything were to happen to him.

I also want to add that the arm rests got a whole lot of attention while we were at Daytona. My wife said a lot of the people she talked to seemed really interested in them so she sent them your way. :thumbup:
