I'm soon getting a 2010 Spyder RS, What accessories/Mods are must have for a short distance rider, mostly evenings/night?

Some of these items are a must;
JuceBox
Stock exhaust sounds weak (what are the best sound and performance)
(I like the hindle and the two brothers but what do you think?)
K&N or Green (NoNeonMagic) air filter
Triple Play
FogLights (a must for here)
After market HID (Dealer option is expensive)/V-Leds.com
LED Bulbs NoNeonMagic/V-Leds.com

What do you think you would do to a stock bike now?

There is a sway bar, nice!

I know a aftermarket sway bar made a huge difference in my cars steering accuracy and body roll, that low profile tires couldn't do alone.

keep the recommendations coming.

welcome Evolution sway bar for sure, man what an improvement ! ESI LEDs, HIDs , UP and Out mirror extenders and Handle bar risers. If you want to spend big bucks CORBIN hard saddle bags, trunk box or smugglers trunk both with backrest and of course heated seat ! ETC. ETC. ETC. Can easily spend the cost of the bike again on mods !!!!

Some good suggestions so far. Have fun making your Spyder yours. :2thumbs:

The most important mod to me is lighting...especially the rear. I would buy the ESI third taillight and the mudflap lights before anything. They did not yet exist when we bought our Spyder, so we had to wait a while. Second on the list is comfort. If you need a different seat or handlebar risers for your physical comfort, they are a priority. You may also need mirror extensions, depending on your accessories, build, and posture. Handling items, like the swaybar or Elko shocks would be next on my list (if I could find a fruitful money tree). I personally can do without the noise, and the performance mods are of no use to me. For those that do want the performance (or noise), those mods should follow safety, comfort, and handling, in that order. My opinion only, of course, you have to set your own priorities.

put ken's sway bar high up on your list:2thumbs: it will do wonders!!!
after i took the sway bar off of my spyder, inside wheel keep lifting up when i was turning... it took me a while to get used to the stock sway bar again... and if you wanna get more performance out of your spyder, and it seems like you do, get his race air flow system too along with juice box/power commander. race air flow system is LOUD but acceleration is so so so much better. as far as muffler goes, hindle just looks like it belongs on spyder and sounds good without being too loud but there are some durability issues with them. two brothers are very very loud and you will not be able to install saddle bags if you go with dual pipes. leo vince is a good option also, especially the carbon fiber ones. it looks awesome and performs well but bit more pricy and louder than hindle.
brp seat cover is good upgrade also, i think. stock seat looks so cheap...
that windshield has inner piece that slides up and down. down for better looks, up for more wind protection at higher speed, oh and fog lights really completes the look of the spyder. of course it makes spyder more visible also. if you are getting fog lights or anti swar bar, it would save you time and money to have dealer install it before they put the spyder together.

i was about to pull the trigger on penske shocks when RT was introduced and i decided to get RT.
Spyder did have just a little problem putting all the new found power on to the pavement with stock shocks.
I am waiting for silver RT to hit the showroom but i am having wee bit of second thoughts. RT has alot of goodies i like but RT did suck all the sportyness out spyder...

have fun shopping :D

Windshield

Bar risers

Rear bags
sway bar
Hindle

. . . . focus on Safety & Ergonomics, first.
Get the visibility lights you need.
My recommendation is to do the comfort and ergonomics in this order:
Risers (if needed)
Tour Pegs (if needed)
Seat and Backrest (if needed)
Windshield (adjustable highly recommended)
Mirror extensions (if needed)

Get the Shocks and tire pressures where you like them and then do the Sway Bar.

Almost everything else is 'performance' or 'vanity' and do what you want and can afford. It is always a good idea to take care of Safety first and the ergonomics will help you be a better and more capable rider.

And if you are a new rider (and even if you are not), invest in yourself - take a safety course.

:agree:
Installs ( if done by the dealer ) can be expensive, so if you get it rolled into your purchase price - it could save you some big bucks.

Also, while the wiring can be "easy", with it being new to you, it is also easy to run into problems that will effect how the bike runs. Better to let those with more experience do it.

If you need more rise for your handlebars then the 1" from BRP. Go with the bars from http://www.kewlmetalstore.com/index.php they will leave you open for more upgrades down the road.

Personally, I love my motolights. Not cheap though. I have headlights, fogs and the motos. I just switched the motos over to yellow 50 watt halogens from the 35 watt "white" bulbs...To avoid violating any laws on forward facing light counts. I love them though. My mods fall into two camps:

#1 Priority - Safety Mods... this means lights.
#2 Priority - Comfort.

I probably ride 5% of the time at night, so extra lights are of no interest to me. Personally, I'd rather have the cold air intake (and I do) than fog lights. But you have to assess your personal ryding needs.

Actually, I put on extra front lights on all of my bikes to help to be seen... not necessarily to help to see.

In my opinion lights add to daytime safety as well. The more odd looking I appear coming down the road the better.

For Safety: You cant beat ESI for a variety of lighting options.

Look into the triple play and mudflap lights for extra visability from the rear when just running, or signaling and braking. Very easy installs, plug and play. If I can do it, most anyone can.

If you are having a hard time seeing the cars behind you with the stock mirror setup, get mirror extentions. They were a must for me.

For comfort:

Unless you like the sport bike position, get risers.

ESI has these in 3 or 4 inches and you can vary the angle:

http://www.esicycleproducts.com/Spyd...RiserKits.html (http://www.esicycleproducts.com/SpyderHandlebarRiserKits.html)

And KewlMetal came out with a real nice set just as easy to install and even more adjustable 2-5 inches, you can vary the angle and you dont have to disassemble the reverse cable:

NMN / ESI HID headlights and the 3" risers were two of the best things I put on my Spyder. Their LED brake light setup comes in third, mostly because I rarely see them in operation. Those HID headlights though..... Just WOW.

What do you think you would do to a stock bike now?

Of course everything on your list would be nice.

I am ONLY making this from the points of view of (1) relatively low cost, and (2) absolute ease of installation for Average Joe.

Drive for a week stock, then notice the "it feels like a different machine" euphoria after you add ANY one of these:

- Highway brackets and pegs.

- 4inch handlebar risers

- Mirror Extensions

If you search these threads, you will find very, very few complaints or regrets about adding any of these.

Do all three as soon as you can, would be my $0.02

OF COURSE a nice new seat, different exhaust, another windshield, plenty of luggage and as many lights as it can handle are always nice. Those you just have to select with more care, both for installation ease/time off the road, personal comfort, customer service, style, and pricing considerations.

Good luck, and enjoy the planning.
