Started at Alexian Brother's Hospital when I was 17. I'm 46 and still here. I work in the Purchasing Dept. as the Inventory Control Coordinator.
B.T.W. If you remember the movie the Exorcist.... The actual exorcism the movie was based on took place on the 5th floor of the old hospital. That building has been leveled and a new one built where the old one stood.
And even creepier..... my father has the crucifix from the room. Don't know if it was the same crucifix that originally hung in the room at the time of the exorcism but it is from that room.
It is hung up in the basement. Every now and then, if someone new comes to the house, I tell them that sometimes when I go down stairs, I find the crucifix hanging upside-down. But I just tell them that for fun. It is always hanging upright! :) God Bless!!!

This has been an interesting thread. Spyder owners are from all walks of life (except no butchers, bakers or candle stick makers). Based on approximately 80 replies so far, 35% are retired and 65% working. 80 is not enough replies to trend across all owners with repect to high retiree percentage. That my be skewed since retirees have more time to post replies, but when compared to other age related threads, the Spyder does have a significant Centrum Silver demographic.

I've been a teacher, pharmacy manager, A&F salesman, medical office manager, freelance commercial art, Audit and Controls for BC/BS in Illinois, freelance computer programmer/systems developer ( OSHA compliance mostly ). It took me 56 years to get from being born in Michigan to retirement in New Mexico on February 26, 2004.

I now just do volunteer work for Food Pantries and other charity organizations . . . AND . . . lots of freelance road inspections in the 4 corners area on my Spyder.

The last 3 years I've been consulting - so my time is my own now, and I'm loving it.

Scotty: Good friend just retired as senior engineer in charge of San Diego wastewater treatment, and the jokes aren't allowed with her!

BTW, the first computer class I took at UCSD was COBOL (way back in 0b011110110111) and we used punch cards on an IBM 360 - graduated to floppies, Fortran and Pascal soon thereafter... but man, punch cards were fun - just don't DROP EM!

Been in the food business the past 30 years. I've done just about everything. Probably can't remember all my positions and jobs. Even taught at tech-school for a short time. My best and worst memory was being self-employed. I started a restaurant from ground up and had to close after nearly 10 years because of road construction on my road that lasted 2 years. With no entrance or water Monday thru Friday I just couldn't survive. For the past 5 years I've been a bakery manager for a large grocery store. Time for a change. Alright, I know being an inventory control coordinator might not catch anyone's eye. But not one single response to the Exorcist?
Doesn't anyone love me anymore? :( Not even a reply from the Devil?
(my previous post is below)

I operated a fairly large machine shop operation up to 5 years ago where I could cut gears up to a 20 feet OD, where I turned out tens of thousands of sprockets for motorcycles, made speed reducers, and general machine shop work for pieces up to 8 tons in weight.

Why I'm call a "Junior Member" is a mystery to me because I imagine I am about the oldest participant in this group, being 84½.

I retired in '08 after 38 years working as a carpenter, mostly concrete gang forms. I had a small contracting business off and on when I coundn't find work with a contractor. Wife retired from the Dept of Corrections in MI.

We just moved from an apt complex to an old farm house. What a welcome change that is!!

Well, I have just skimmed this thread, and I think that if it came to choosing people to survive the end of the world, most of y'all would be way ahead of me, with the skills you have!

I'm in customer service - the operative part of that phrase is the 'cuss' part, lol! Trust me on that. We are in sales and service for European manufacturers of wire drawing, fiber optics, and cable-making machinery. That's how I make my living, although I am a licensed building contractor.

I'll probably never get to retire. Between the economy's hit to my retirement plan, and the fact that I am the sole breadwinner in my household, I'll probably work till I drop.

My "first career" was in biotechnology patent law for almost 15 years. Before that I had a kazillion different jobs while I was going to college - it was a 13-yr degree program since I had to work and put myself through school. ;)

Moved to Colorado when I was 45 and somehow ended up in real estate/land use planning which led to my current job with the Colorado DOT as assistant regional access manager for 15 counties. I love what I do now, but I'm still at least 5-10 years away from retirement. :gaah:
