I am able to turn the key clockwise on the rear trunk but the entire 3 hatches don't lock, what happens instead
is the key turns to the clockwise but you can not pull it out. only at the upright inserion position .(could they have put
this in incorrectly . Also
I have tried unsuccessfully to get the hard turn of the handlebars to lock, I am doing it as stated in
the manual, but what happens is the front trunk un locks (Iam quite good at doing this) :ohyea: but not what I was hoping for.
Guess I will take the short drive down to the dealership to find out, unless someone else
here has a quick solution

Don't know about the RT, but to lock the bars on the GS, DON'T push in on the key and turn to the left.

I had some difficulty removing the key from the trunk in the locked position, too. Wiggling it and pulling gently, it finally came out. I'm going to try some Lock-Ease to see if it helps. It might also help pushing down on the rear trunk lid a bit. As long as the cylinder doesn't come out, you should be OK. Hoping that time and graphite make it better, or I will be seeing my dealer, too.

The steering lock on the Spyder is quite sensitive to position. Usualy turning the bars to full lock finds the right spot, but you may have to wiggle a bit to find the slot. You may also have to wiggle the bars a bit, or push hard towards the steering stop, to unlock them. As was said, don't push down on the key while you turn. If you can't get the hang of it, see the dealer. It would be preferable for him to break or bend the key, and have to pay for it.

:bowdown:THANK YOU BOTH!, works like a charm, I first re-tried the trunk by wiggling the key and then lightly pushing down
on the trunk lid . Key removed it self. I repeated it again this time only wiggling the key with some WD-40 on thekey as I
inserted it and Wahla, (magic) .it locked and key came out, now it works like a charm.

Next I went up to the handle bar ,turned it,and this time did not push down, and again magic happened.

You both saved me a trip to the dealership, now I will have to figure some other place to ride to today.:doorag:

When you lock the steering, it also locks the small center storage compartment just in front of the saddle.

and I took there 3 yr maintenance agreement, the dealership offered, that gives me up to 3 times per year free scheduled
maintenance, and i get to go to the front of the line when I bring it in. It was expensive, but they said the 6K check up was like
14 hrs of labor http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e240/TicketBait/DogsandCars/SPYDER%20RTS/willy_nilly.gif

I bought a service agreement on mine too. 3 years schedule mx covered, unlimited miles. Ive got a year and a half left on it, and it has already paid for itself at the prices I would have paid otherwise. I figure Ill get at least another full cycle of checks (3, 6, and 12K) before it runs out, even though I sat for a year or so.
