Well I bought one off ebay yesterday as no-one else seems to have one and I'm looking for a bit better fuel economy and lower RPM as I do all highway riding. I'll report on it it due course.

I sent PM's to a few that purchased them on Ebay. This is the only response received so far:

Hi unfortunately the sprocket has not been mounted yet so I have no direct input for you .However the principle is the same as sprockets and it should cut highway rpms down a fair bit ,as a result you will lose some bottom end torque .Hope this helps

Will post anything I receive.

I'm too lazy to run the calculations again, but as I recall, this only drops about 400 rpm at highway speeds. Not much return for the investment. The Spyder likes rpm, forget the Goldwing or Harley way of cruising, and buzz it a bit.

Thanks Scotty, guess we will just keep the stock.

I would like to hear some feedback on these sprockets. But my gut feeling is that Scotty is right. Dropping RPM's is not necessarily a magic bullet. You must have the umph to go with the lower RPM to make it work.

Just moving the load down in the powerband (which starts pretty high on the Spyder) may work fine on long distance, flatland, freeway cruising. But unless you want to immitate cross county, long haul 18 wheeler's you may not like the added teeth for all around riding.

I'm like the rest of you. I'd like to have it all too! My wish would be for a 6th gear, an Over-Drive. It would be like a 30 or 31 tooth sprocket but only when it would do some good without taking anything away.

Of course I'd like to keep the reverse too. Like I said, I'd like to have it all!

I'm with you. My new scooter has a 6th gear... 4,000 RPM at 105 MPH with a 6,500 red line.

However, I miss the reverse.

If you had one, you'd probably forget to put your feet down. :joke:

Well, 46 wheeler actually. I drive this for a living. That's Freddy jnr, he rides Spyder mostly, I rider a 1400 GTR (Concours14) usually.

You would probably do most of the around town driving in second gear and maybe a little in third gear.

I haven't looked yet... and I don't have my service manual with me... how many teeth does the factory installed sprocket have on it?

Surely I am not the only one that is doing this already?

1st Gear - Under 20
2nd Gear - 20 - 35
3rd Gear - 36 - 50
4th Gear - 51 - 65
5th Gear - Anything over 65

If I am remembering correctly, on my Spyder 60 mph in 4th gear is a tiny bit over 5,000 rpm. 55 mph in 5th gear turns 4,000 rpm so I haven't really been using 5th gear very much at all. :dontknow:

Well I fitted it and it seems to do what the maker says. It'll be interesting to see how the alluminium stands up to the wear but it's all goos for now.

Not much information there. Ok, a 400 RPM reduction, at what speed? I assume maybe at 70mph? But they don't say. Could be 75, 80, whatever.

I've thought this since I bought mine, but have also noticed it doesn't like low RPM's. Have tried speeding up when I have let the RPM's drop below about 4000 and ya have to drop a gear or it shudders like crazy.

You're remembering correctly. I usually run 45 in 4th and anything over 50 in 5th until I want to pass something or accelerate. When I drop below 40 I drop to 3rd.

.
29 to 30 tooth should provide a 3.45% RPM reduction throughout the band. Not much.

Ok... then roughly double it... about 7%.

Checked it last night on the way home and 5100 was indicating 70mph. 5600 indicates about 76-77mph.
