Just curious on what you all recommended as far as oil for the Spyder. Type, weight? Any help would be appreciated!:f_spider:

My dealer swears by Amsoil 10/40 full synthetic. I've been using it for over 9,000 miles and have never had any problems.

There are many others on this site who would agree.

I use "Castrol Power RS R4 4T with Trizone Technology is a fully synthetic 4–stroke engine oil for high performance bikes. Its Race Proven Technology based on Castrol's extensive history and testing experience ensures optimum engine performance to help provide increased acceleration under the most arduous riding conditions. Features:

Fully–synthetic 4–stroke motorcycle engine oil
Unique anti–friction, low viscosity formula
SAE 5W–40
Exceeds API SL, JASO MA2"

This is the only oil I have been able to find that meets all the requirements, as stated in Spyder owner's manual. Hopefully, there are others but I have not been able to find them.

I recommend an oil that meets the manufacturers specifications, as stated in the Operator's Guide. That means 5W-40 full synthetic motorcycle oil, but no SM rating. Unfortunately, it is scarce, and the BRP oil no longer meets their own 2008 & 2009 spec. You may have to move to a 10W-40 synthetic. BTW, I would never use a 10W-30, as was mentioned. Too thin for good protection.

I agree with BeRight, I also use the fully synthetic Castrol Power RS R4 4T its a great oil and for me it was available at a local Crotch Rocket dealership, availablility is always nice.. I have used Castrol in many products that I have owned and have always had really good results. This oil as mentioned, meets and exceeds all the recomendations of BRP.:2thumbs:

I'm using Amsoil 10w-40. I've got about 3000 miles on it and Spyder hasn't blown up yet.

I use Mobil 1 Motorcycle 10W40 oil. I would just say that no matter what brand or weight oil you use (5W40 or 10W40) just make sure that it is rared for motorcycle use. That in itself is more important than any thing else. Just look at the ratings on the back of the container and look for the designation (JASO/MA) if it don't say that it isn't motorcycle oil.

If you change your oil and filter every 3000 miles any Motocyle rated oil will be just fine.

P/S Maybe even used French Fry oil from Mickey D's will do just as well.:roflblack: [At 3000 mile intervals]

I have been using Royal Purple 10W40 for the last 25,000 miles and all is well. As for the filter, I think we are all commited to the BRP filter. I change the oil every 5,000 miles and do it myself, keeping the receipts for posterity.

AmsOil is great! I use it too. But I'd change it before 9,000 miles. :roflblack:
