View Full Version : New Owner and I love my Spyder

I bought a used 2008 Spyder GS about 2 weeks ago for $11k before TTL with 2100 miles on it from a Toyota car dealership. At the time I felt like I got an incredible deal on it, but now after doing some research it appears the price I paid was very fair.

That being said I've had a few BRP recreational vehicles and still own a couple in addition to the Spyder. A 2007 SeaDoo Challenger 230 SE boat and a 2005 SeaDoo RXT jetski are part of current vehicles. Prior to this I had other SeaDoo boats and jetski's. Almost of all of the items have had minor issues and maybe one major for each item but for the most part have been highly reliable, very fun, and we have been a satisfied owner of all the BRP manufactured items.

I've been watching the Spyder for the past year and half with growing curiosity for the past six months. While I have spent much time offroad with various motor cycles and vehicles I've never owned a street bike, primarily due to personal safety and responsibility for my family.

While there is still significant risk riding the Spyder I do feel that the additional stability associated with the design leaves the vast majority of the risk now on the driver's ability to be highly defensive with other vehicles on the road. I felt the risk now was still high, but much more manageable.

In the past two weeks I've really grown to enjoy driving the Spyder and feel very safe on it, although I am awaiting a new windshield I ordered to give me more wind protection at 45+MPH as I'm 6'2". The stuff I've been reading over the weekend is concerning as a new owner, but again I think its great that we now know that if the vehicle's steering starts messing up to kill the cycle via the emergency shut off ( which kills the DPS ) and coast to a stop.

This is a great site and I look forward to many minor mods to my bike and hearing about the successful use by others.

welcome I saw that one for sale and thought "did Toyota take a Spyder as a trade-in?" How COOL! I think you got a great deal. I paid $12,000 for mine with 5500 miles. I love mine, trust it and have had no problems.

Good luck and safe riding!

Howdy! I'm SpyderWolf's wife and I too have a :spyder:. Mine's red. I'm glad to hear you like yours and look forward to hearing from you more! Like the dealer said to us... a bike is a downpayment on accessories. ;) LOL

Happy Riding!
