Inspired by the 'Where did you start?' thread. (https://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?149279-Where-did-you-start)

It was about 2 years ago during a trip to Las Vegas, a.k.a. "Lost Wages". My g/f and I were looking for something to do besides lose money at the casinos, LOL.

I happened upon an outfit called "Las Vegas Spyder Tours" (not sure they're in existence anymore). They had a tour of the Red Rock Canyon area on Spyders, so we decided to book one. We've been always intrigued with the machines, and were wondering if one can find its way to our fleet of vehicles. (Our local Reno dealership only offered test rides in their parking lot. You read that right - IN THEIR PARKING LOT, even with a valid motorcycle license).

Anyway, we go and check out the place. The owners briefly went over the controls, gave us the required helmets and told us to practice at their parking lot. We could only do the 1-2 shift, but it gave us an idea of what it was like to shift using the paddleshifters. So after our group had a "crash course" of all of about 10 minutes (bad use of that term, I know), we proceeded to head out of town.

Our ride was a mix of 25 mph in-town riding to 85 mph blasts down the interstate, with a mix of everything else in-between. I told the owner/operator who lead our group that I was considering buying one and needed a thorough test ride, and he replied, "Ride it like you stole it".

That was all I needed to hear.

After our 2-hour tour, we decided then and there that a Spyder WILL find its way to our garage.

Later that summer, we decided to do a road-trip loop (we never take the same route back on a road-trip) to Yosemite from Reno. On the way back, we spontaneously made a stop at Elk Grove Power Sports in Elk Grove, CA. Come to find out that they had an RT Limited that was a leftover STILL IN THE CRATE. They were willing to sell it at a heavily discounted price to make room for the new models.

A week later, we had an RTL in our garage.

So what was your first experience with a Can-Am ??

My first ride was when I bought a 2015 F3S about 12 days ago. The seller was 170 miles from me in South Carolina. My trailer is a 5 by 10 but needed a 6 foot wide trailer to fit the Spyder. After being unsuccessful trying to rent one, decided to ride it home. Got insurance and the seller was kind enough to lend his license plate which I mailed back to him.
First thing, went to the first gas station and filled the trike up with premium. Couldn’t figure how to get into reverse, so just pushed it backwards which was surprising easy.
Enjoyed the ride, was 96 degrees out so had to keep moving. Was like riding a really fast go kart. Wound it up to 100 and was pretty stable. Some vibration over 65. Will have to check the belt. Also had to endure 30 miles of heavy downpours. It was brutal, but cooled me off.
The Spyder is a much better ride than the 1800 Goldwing trike I once had.
It’s in the 90s here in North Carolina, so not doing any long rides. Just ordered some new handlebars, rear fender extender, oil change kit, belt gauge, and larger brake pedal. Will also be doing coolant and brake fluid. Rear tire in the fall.
Overall happy with the trike.

I forgot the year, but it was when local Ski Doo dealer had prototype demos. Followed the parts mgr. on a spirited ride. I was impressed with the handling and knew one would be in the future when 2 wheels got to be too much. Wife is happy with F3S, I'm not too far off for myself depending on the economy.

Quit 2 wheelers in 2013 ??? or thereabout and in August of 2015 I moved from Fort St, John down to Chilliwack. Needed something to ride and found the Can-Am dealer. He had a “slightly used” RT-S SE6 for sale. Took it for a test ride, came back to the dealership, and about 1 or 2 hours later took my new to me Spyder home. First time riding a three-wheeler, and that’s all she wrote! Still have and ride my first Spyder and love it.

Early March this year (2022). My wife rented a 6x12 UHaul enclosed trailer with double-swing doors, and she traveled to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area (~550mi) to pick up and bring back her ‘15 F3-S. {We mutually decided that a Spyder was her best bet at getting back solo on a bike after a low-side incident on her Vulcan 500 in 2017}. She had taken a Can-Am training course a few weeks prior; I had never even sat on one. Anyway, I checked it over, referencing a downloaded operator’s manual and after reading the “Do’s and Don’ts” on this forum, then I took it for a shake-down ride. Felt comfortable on it immediately. Definitely different than a 2-wheeler! That 1st ride included several miles of swapping lanes quickly (to get used to its handling), a 0-100mph WOT blast (to check its acceleration), and a 70-0mph full-panic stop (to check brakes and ABS). Brought it back to the garage with 26 miles on it, and told her that I was pretty sure she was gonna LOVE it! I rode hers a couple more times the next few weeks after a few mods, and decided maybe “I” outta get me one. By mid-April had bought a brand-new, never titled, 73-total-miles ‘17 F3-S Daytona 500 at a dealer clear across the country. And the rest, as they say, is history ...

May 23 2014 after 2012 TBI injury & subsequent recovery/rehab (literally learning to walk, talk, eat, function again) {order of events gets lil fuzzy} passing motorcycle training course {February 2014} attempted put deposit down on 2013 demo model still in house at dealer, only to have credit union pre-approval-issued, failed :hun: & re-granted months later, after discovered expired license - so got that renewed. In mean time demo price thankfully knocked down even further. Bank calls with cheque ready, bud gives me ride to dealer, Test ride in parking lot. Sign some paperwork & Happily on my way - & now 9 states visited, 1 furthest point S in Key West & at 72,097m  :riding:

2013 I took a RT Limited for a test ride while out of town on a jobsite visit. I passed the dealership and saw it and just had to try. I had intentions of purchasing one in about 5-10 years. That was speeded up after having an accident on my 2 wheeler in September of 2014. Wife didn't want me to ride anymore, so 2 weeks later I ordered a 2014 RT.

My first spyder was a 2012 RTS-SE5, I had been a passenger on a 2 wheel motorcycle for 16 years.

So I got my motorcycle endorsement in 2012, on my drivers license, took the test with the 2012 RTS-SE5. I had the 2012 RTS-SE5 for 2 years, traded -up to my current 2014 RTS-SE6( took a demo ride on the 2014 RTS-SE6 at Spyderfest in Springfield, MO) and never looked back.

Wife and I test rode in 2012 in Ft. Kent Maine. Took a test ride for about an 1.5 hours. I was a 2012 RTS SE5, blue in color. We did not want a blue one. They had a magnisium demo that was a 2011 RTS SM5. We got a good deal and bought it. Still riding the 2011. Just hit 90.000 mile. Bruce

Last year. A friend had one and let me take it for a ride to determine if it would work ok for me. It did, and I found a VERY LIGHTLY used one locally and bought it a couple of weeks later.

In October of 2007, I put down a $500 deposit on a 2008 GS SM5. I wanted either red or yellow. When they finally came in to the dealer in Alaska, June 2008, I had one choice...half moon silver. I took it. My first ride was to bring it home and then ride the 8 mile Eagle River Road that ran by my home. I got the first one delivered to a customer in Alaska. The dealer took two more, one for him and one for his wife.

Since they were a new thing, I spent the first year answering all kinds of questions almost everywhere I went.

Sep, 2007, Dulano's Pizza, Mpls, MN: saw the part of the demo model fleet and talked to a loud-mouth salesman whom stated they were going to sell better than Harley and he would hold extreme pricing, blah, blah, blah. But it did catch my eye and I really liked the concept. First ride was a year later @ Tousley Motorsports, White Bear Lake, MN, again on the demo fleet, less the loudmouth. As it was at the end of the 2008 model year, Tousley didn't have a machine and wouldn't work with us to find one, SpyderDeb started calling dealers. She lucked into an outstanding sales guy, Kurt, at Caswell Cycles, Mora, MN: he made the deal happen! That began a long-term relationship with the fine people (owners and employees) at Caswell Cycles.

2018. Midland, Texas. I owned a 2008 GL1800 Gold Wing with a Motor Trike Adventure kit since 2012. Loved it. However I became agonizingly aware that Honda dealers near me did not want to even touch a trike. I had to take it 125 miles to San Angelo to a friend for service. I began to look at the Spyders my Honda dealer was selling… all too expensive. Then he got a used 2014 Cognac RTL in.. 2500 miles on the odo. Lady traded it in on a brand knew 2018 Spyder RTL.. kept complaining it wouldn’t start most of the time. Dealer said they could not replicate the problem. I rode it, liked it, traded my Gold Wing trike for it.
Stopped on the way home to fill it up.. no problems starting. Got it home. Spent most of the day cleaning and polishing it up. Decided I needed to re-position it in the garage. No start. Called dealer.. tried to help me get it started over the phone.. no dice. They came to pick it up. I told the dealer the deal was off and he better not have sold my trike. Got my trike back. Was told later they replaced the DESS unit, sold it, and never heard of any more problems with it.
Then rode a slightly used 2018 white Spyder RTL for a couple of hours. Liked it.. could not get dealer to give me decent deal on my trike. Passed on it.
2019 I moved from Midland to the Texas Hill Country. Spyder dealer only 42 miles from me.. looked at the 2020 Spyder RTL.. liked it.. but waited another year thinking they could iron out the bugs of a new model.
I was still taking my trike to San Angelo for service…now 150 miles away.
2021 February I took possession of my 2021 Spyder RTL and have really liked it. Put the trike on consignment and it sold immediately.
Would have kept the trike but the friend in San Angelo told me he was retiring and would not be doing anymore service on the trike.

Same dealer, but they let me go on a much longer test ryde. Maybe because I was 20 years older and bought the poor, old, slow V-Max from them?

In 2015 I rented an RTL for a day just to try it out.
I had hit oil on an exit ramp in the rain a couple of years before on the 1991 Yamaha Venture Royal towing a camper trailer and ended up hitting the bumper of the car in front of me just hard enough to lay it down. Broke of the anti dive on the right side of the fork and drained the oil out. I did some temp. repairs on the bike and rode it from Lake George back to MI. Getting older I thought that the SPyder was Intriguing.

I found a dealer who rented them and after a couple of rounds in the parking lot I was off to the races for the 60 mile ride home. The first 50 miles I was all over the road, I was thinking that nobody in their right mind would want one of these things. Then I started to relax a little and it got MUCH better. By the end of the day I was sold on it.

Purchased a 2015 RTL just a few months later. I took my son to O'Hare airport to fly out on a mission trip, stopped at ImotorSports to look at a yellow RTL and rode it home 3 days later.

Hit a deer with that one at about 55 to 60 mph, it had about 45,000 miles on it. Repairs were going to take months, so I purchased a 2020 RTL and sold the 2015 after it was repaired. 2020 now has about 17,000 miles on it and we love it.

Still have a 1989 Yamaha Venture Royal, one of the three that I have owned, but I never ride it. The Spyder is the bike of choice for me.

Early December 2020. I knew that I wanted a RT Ltd. and took the BRP sponsored course so that I could easily get my endorsement, I had nothing better to do so what the heck.

For me the course was a blast as I have been riding 4 wheelers for many years.

I had my license endorsement and purchased my RT Ltd on Dec. 30th 2020

Like several others here, I never drove one until I bought it. Drove around the dealers lot 3-4 times to get a feeling for the handling and headed out. After 4-5 miles on city streets got on the Interstate and headed home. No problems. I think riding snowmobiles in another life helped. I find the steering much easier on my old shoulders than the Hannigan trike was.

I was looking at Harley trikes but didn't want to spend $35K. While looking at videos on youtube, I saw one for the 2020 spyder rt. I got to looking at them on the brp site. So, I showed the wife, and she was like, that's nice. In looking at the site some more, I found the Ryker, which I found out was automatic. So, I showed the wife that one and told her it's an automatic. THAT got her attention. She wanted to go to the dealer the next day (a Saturday). So, we go there, and they have a Ryker on display. She sits on it and loves it. We get home and we're in the pool, and she's got that look on her face. She says, "you know, I've been going over the numbers...". The next day we buy both the RT and the Ryker Rally. Bought both in August of '20 but mine is a '21.

I rode my first Spyder about 6 weeks ago - are you ready for this? At our local Harley dealership! Husband and I went there as I wanted to check out trikes (have been having a real confidence issue with 2-wheeled bikes). I'd already been through the MSF course, and have my endorsement. Short-fingered hands, a few hand surgeries, and a very weak left collarbone, tried more than one "regular bike" even with adjustable levers, and just couldn't get comfortable about keeping the weight upright. Long story short, an absolutely WONDERFUL very young salesman (him 21, me 66) asked if I'd been on a Spyder. He told me I REALLY needed to try it. They had an RT there they'd gotten on trade, and he told me with my shoulder problems I was still going to have issues turning a regular trike in slow speed scenarios. So, I tried it, and I suspected before I got on it that my self-confidence issue was going to be GONE! Kiddo was right! I loved it, and I could finally ride with my husband without the back of his helmet being my only view! That particular bike wasn't what I finally settled on - I liked the ride position of the F3 better, I discovered. Found mine just outside Oklahoma City, wasn't quite up to dealing with interstate traffic at that point, so my husband rode it the 290 miles home while I followed in the car, with the two fur babies who went on the car trip with us. Poor guy - it was 106 degrees the day we got there to pick it up, and was forecast for the same the next day. We left EARLY and he still had a hot ride home! (Yup, he loves me!) We've been out for a number of morning rides since it came home. My closest school for a 3-wheel course is not currently doing classes, unfortunately. Taking my time, we have lots of rides we can do without a whole lot of traffic, and I'm having a blast!

In 2013 I was planning on converting my Goldwing to a trike by buying a wrecked trike and taking the conversion off of it. I estimated it would cost me around $24,000 total including the market value of my 'Wing. I decided I would be better off to buy a Spyder which was designed from the ground up to be 3 wheels and thousands of dollars cheaper. My nephew had bought one of the first Spyders in Idaho, a 2008 GS so I was passingly familiar with the Spyder. In 2013 he bought a 2010 RT but still had the GS. I asked to take a ride on his 2010 so we went for about a 20 mile ride, he on the GS and me on the RT. I knew right then the RT was the right trike for me so I started scouring Craigslist. I bought a 2013 RT from a Cadillac salesman in Fond du Lac, WI in November, 2013. Took my first real ride on it about March 2014.

My first ryde on a Can Am Spyder was when I test rode mine at a dealership in Illinois. That was in July 2020. I had went there to purchase a motorcycle but seen the Spyders and ask the sales man about them . He told me he had a one owner 17 RTL in the warehouse he could get me on for the same money I was going to spend on the motorcycle.
The wife and I took it for a test ride and I was hooked. Rode it home that evening, 2hr ryde home on backroads and interstate for my first experience on a Spyder.
The rest is history. The wife and I both love it and don't regret the decision at all. I am sure there will be a new Spyder in my future if I ever get tired of this one.

First ride was after flying 1500 miles to pick my newly purchased used RT from an individual. After the first day on the road back home, I called the SO and told her " I'm selling this damn thing as soon as I get home, If I get home."

50+ years of two wheeled riding and several decades of Goldwings left me with muscle memory that was downright dangerous on the trip back. I had no real understanding of how to ride a Spyder starting out on the long drive back.

But after several more days on the road I learned to manage the machine and got it (and me) home safely. Now I'm enjoying it and it's a keeper....but don't do what I did.

Spyders aren't the only trike that takes getting used to. The director of our local GWRRA chapter, which now is no more, told of a couple of guys who bought 'wing trikes. The dealer urged them to spend time in the parking lot to get the hang of them. They bragged about how experienced and good riders they were and didn't any stinkin' parking lot training! One of them promptly missed a bridge over a canal and put the trike into the canal, and the other ran into the side of a building.

After a high side totalled my trusty RoadKing in 2017, I spent about a year recovering and trying to overcome the loss of equilibrium that resulted from the accident. It was apparent that a three-wheeler was a better choice for me, but I wasn't sure what to try; I only knew I wanted to get back in the wind.

In May 2019, I happened to see a classified ad in the local paper for a 2014 Spyder ST, so I made arrangements with the owner and went to check it out. My first ride was only a few miles down-and-back from the owner's home on a two-lane road with a high crown. The ST seemed to handle a little squirrely, but I figured a lot of that was the road surface, not the ST. I liked it enough to buy it. It had only 2000 miles and the price was right.

I rode the ST for about a year. There are some things I still like better about it, particularly the 998 engine being so lively and ready to rev. But ultimately it seemed to lack comfort, storage and the capacity to ride for a longer distance, so I traded it in 2020 for a new 2019 RT Limited from iMotorsports. That's still mine and I expect to keep it a long time. I personally prefer the 2019 to the 2022 RT, which I rode on a demo earlier this year.

I do sometimes miss the Harleys that I rode for more than 30 years, but HD trikes just aren't my cuppa tea. The Spyder is a better trike in just about every way, so I've made peace with the switch.

I ordered my 2020 F3S SS without ever having tried one. I'm a snowmobile guy so I just knew I would enjoy it. The 3 wheel class was originally scheduled for the month before delivery. But that was March of 2020 - right when everything was shut down because of Covid. The class got delayed a couple of months. So the bike came in toward the end of April and there was no way I was going to wait for the class. First ryde was when I took delivery of it at my dealer. Drove it in circles in their parking lot to get used to the brake function and then drove it home - but I only live two miles away from the dealer. I loved it immediately. Drove it unlicensed for a couple of months until I could take the class and get legal.

Well Dave I'll assume ( I hate to do that) you're talking about my poor, old, slow 98 V-Max. YES, I kept the Max, modded it some and still love the kick it gives when the V-Boost opens in the lower 3 gears. Best be pointed exactly where you want to go though.

Lew a friend of mine loaned me his VMax. I had been riding Ventures for years and thought I knew what the V4 could do. Wrong. I was very glad for that step in the seat when I hit the VBoost in 3rd gear or I would have been on the ground watching it careen off by itself down the road. Very sudden introduction into g forces.

In 2011 my wife and I had serious accident, my 2nd in 9 weeks. Something had to change, so I ended up buying a 1984 Mustang GT convertible and a Friend who was retiring from riding's 1990 Goldwing trike. In looking for a trike forum I found Triketalk.com and this place in 2012. I began to read about Spyders and it really piqued my interest so I went up to Provo and the longtime Skidoo dealer there who had just taken on the Spyder line and I talked him into a test ride, he didn't have an RT but lent me an ST. I had ridden up on my Goldwing Trike so he knew that I knew at least a little about trikes. I took it up on the freeway and ran it up to freeway speed (80) then took the cutoff for Spanish Fork Canyon and rode up it quite aways. It was fast, I liked that; It handled better than the Goldwing, but the Goldwing was more comfortable and didn't twitch. I didn't pull the trigger that day, but came back a year later and rode an RT. Much better ride, but still twitchy and a lot of money. Still didn't buy. Rode a friends 2010 standard shift, it was ok but I liked the semi auto. By this time I had 40,000 miles on the Goldwing and had determined I was done with it. I sold it and the Mustang (which my wife never liked) and was looking on the internet for Spyders. I found my 2012 RTL and the rest is history.

My first ride on a Spyder was an experience from hell! I bought my 2014 RTL with matching RT622 trailer in 2016 sight unseen from a dealer in Tulsa, OK. Flew from Arizona and took delivery. The seller was a non-BRP dealer but I felt OK because the bike was still under warranty. It was windy on the way home. Tornado activity in Oklahoma. Winds at 60-70+ MPH all across OK and the Texas panhandle. Then both front shock seals blew on the aftermarket Elka shocks. By the time I got to New Mexico, the rear tire was bald. Had the tire replaced in Alburquerque, NM. Managed to limp the rest of the way home with the front end bouncing like a rubber ball. Fortunately the dealer stepped in and reimbursed me for the tire+installation. And they purchased and sent me a new set of front shocks (OEM). I had the Elkas rebuilt and reinstalled them with no further issues. But for many months I was chasing poor riding characteristics. The bike was unridable and scary dangerous above 65 MPH. With help and advice from this forum, I replaced all the tires, getting rid of the Kendas. Problem solved..... Jim

This is a great question! My answer will be long winded as it took me 60 years to buy a motorcycle!
I was fortunate in being able to retire at 57 yrs. old. In 2010 at 58 yrs.old I wanted to do something new. I decided to follow my best friend and get my motorcycle license, he had his for more than 40 years. I successfully completed the MSF course and got my class M. I rented a Honda Intrepid (I think it was) for 3 days. I dropped it once each day and after the 3rd drop decided 2 wheels was not for me. I started to look at trikes. At the same time, between 2010 and 2012, my best friend was considering moving to 3 wheels.
Searching online, I found the BRP web site and the 2010 Spyder RT. I loved the look and started to research it. My pal, also liked the look and he and I test rode Spyders at Artic Adventures and at Americade in 2011. So my first time on a Spyder was at Artic Adventures where the owner took us for a long test ride through upstate NY. We were caught in the web!
However, it wasn't quite the time to buy since I was retired and was loathe to spend almost 30K of our retirement money on a toy. I got a job with NJ DMV at the end of June 2012 and purchased my 1st RTL and 622 trailer immediately. My pal and I took possession of our new rides on July 3, 2012. I upgraded to the 2014 RTL SE6 on March 17, 2015 (hence I call her Irish) and with a total of more than 75K Spyder miles am happily riding as often as I can. I paid 26,500 for the 2012 Spyder, 3,500 for the 622 trailer and then 25,900 for the left over 2014 RTL. So today a RTL is listed on the BRP site for 27,499, not much difference in the prices I've paid.

I was still cautiously riding my 2002 Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 Classic that I had bought new in California. I had moved to Virginia Jan. 2011, and had discovered the Blue Ridge Parkway, a Biker’s dream! But at age 70, the 2 wheeler was getting hard on my knees, so I was considering a Trike. I test rode a converted Suzuki Trike, with one wheel up front and 2 in the rear, and hated it. Then I saw the BRP Ads showing Spyders, and searched out the closest Dealer selling Spyders, and did a walk in , Jan. 2012. They had an RTL Demonstrator in the Show Room, which I was offered a test ride after mentioning I was looking to trade in my 2002 Vulcan Classic. After showing me how to ride it, I followed some one through the back roads for about a 5 mile test drive, and was immediately hooked. I returned and signed the Contract to purchase a brand new RTL on the way in shipping, and agreed on the trade in price for my Kawi Vulcan. I took delivery of the 2012 in March 2012, and rode it for 5 years, logging 55,300 miles on it. In April 2017, I upgraded to a left over 2016 RTL. and rode it a other 5 years, logging 63,000 miles on it, before upgrading to a 2021 RTL Demo. with only 163 miles on it, this past April 2022. I have enjoyed all of my 3 RTLs, but this 2021 is by far the best handing one I have had. It has an OEM Belt Tensioner installed in the right location, and unlike my 2012 and 2016, there is absolutely no belt chatter at any speeds at all. Also, the shocks seem to be better, as the ride is also smoother. I now have 3600 miles on my 2021 RTL. Oh ya, at age 76, I added a 2009 Harley Heritage Classic to my Toys, and have also logged 20,000 miles on it along with my Spyders. I am now age 80, and still riding both the Harley and the Spyder. Of course, at age 80, I still have pains in my knees, hips, back, but I still have not replaced any natural body parts, and after the first couple of miles in the wind, most of my pains disappear like farts in the wind.

Back in 2016 I was ready to trade in my Triumph Thunderbird for a Goldwing, but my wife asked me to at least take a demo ride on a Spyder. So I agreed to do so, and hated every second of it. I think I was totally predisposed to hate it, not wanting anything to get in the way of a new Goldwing (I also tried a Harley Ultra, a BMW K1600 and a Victory Cross Country Tour). Jump forward 5 years to the summer of 2021. A tipover in my garage convinced me that at 78 the 920 pound Goldwing was too much to handle and it was time for a change. I took a demo ride on a new RT, but this time with an open mind, and loved it from the first. I negotiated and bought one that very day. A year later I am still totally glad that I went this route.

What a great topic!

I had seen Spyders on the road and thought they looked cool as the other side of the pillow. I had been riding a 2010 Kawasaki Vulcan for a few years (a heavy bike) and was drawn to the fact that I didn't need to balance a Spyder. I had an upcoming trip to San Diego in which I had two days to kill. So i looked up Spyder rentals and found this exact Spyder. A base F3.

https://www.cyclevisionsrental.com/can-am-rentals/

So I get to Cyclevision and the guy shows me all the controls and how to operate everything. I had a 400 mile adventure all planned out, mountains, deserts, seashore. So cold turkey, off I go. WOWSER!!! I was not prepared for any of it. After only two blocks, my GPS took me onto a crowded California highway - HOLY TERROR! I was scared to death and HATED everything about it. All I could think was, how can I return and change to a motorcycle. But a combination of pride and not even knowing how to get back kept me from that. Luckily, I didn't kill myself during that first hour. I stopped to get gas about 1.5 hours into the trip and gathered my thoughts. Do i turn back or grit it out. I chose to grit it out. Then something magical happened: I stopped fighting the Spyder and RODE it. The next 60 minutes things progressively changed. My confidence started growing. I started understanding the machine and that I had to operate the way it operated rather than the other way around. We became friends. By the next day, we became more than friends. Can a man fall in love with a machine? I am not sure about that but it was awfully close. By the time I returned the Spyder on day 2, I knew I was hopelessly hooked and wanted one for my own.

Bought a 2013 Spyder ST-S in Raleigh, NC. Nov 14, 2015 Did a fly and ryde back to Pittsburgh, PA. 512 miles total in 1 ½ days. Not a long ryde but enough for starters. Note, I had never been on a Spyder or any sort of trike before so this was a true adventure. Picked her up on Saturday at noon. Had a half hour of instruction from the PO and off I went – Shaky and Scared almost to death. The ride was very physical requiring a lot of body English. Not at all like my previous motos. I rode secondary highways. Spent Saturday night in Fredericksburg. 7 AM Sunday, 27 degrees, and dark I was in the parking lot of the motel installing makeshift wiring for my heated jacket and glove controller. Adjusted the tire pressure and feeling warm and a little more stable and a bit more confident I stated out for the final leg home on the super slab. Arrived home Sunday afternoon without issues except the dire need to start making changes to suit my goal of touring and camping. Never did get my GPS hooked up. Just used the cell phone map for directions.

The first year Can-Am had them at the International Motorcycle Show in South SF. I'd just had knee surgery and wasn't going to test ride anything, but just had to try out the Spyder. The sportbike seating position and abrupt corrections from the "Nanny" left me less than satisfied. Luckily, things Spyder have changed!

My first Spyder ride will be this weekend. My dealer called and my 2022 RTL is finally ready to pick up. Very excited!

Now I have my first ride in. I have ridden quads a long time so it actually felt pretty natural. In the hour ride home on the highway from the dealer I had several miles of very heavy rain (so heavy many cars were slowing down) and the Spyder handled it like a champ. Never would have attempted it on two wheels. People must have thought I was crazy passing them at 55 in that rain. :2thumbs:

Ours was in the fall of 2017 after I realized my reactions and strength were no longer optimal for riding two-up on a motorcycle (at age 63 and very short-legged). That was the result of a very slow speed tip over in a tight U-turn on one of the bikes on a trip where we had trailered one of the cruisers to Las Vegas, NM with us so we could ride a little while there. Once home from that, I contacted a friend of mine who owns a Spyder and asked about a short test ride. He agreed and we met at my house then continued on over to one of the big parking lots at the lake here where I live. From there, he allowed us to ride around the parking and up to the entrance to that area while he was on the pillion seat giving instructions. That was it; While I was hoping he would allow the wife and I ride several miles on it while he rode the bike we were on with his wife. That didn't happen so we then made an impromptu trip up to Altus OK a couple of weeks later where there was a dealer who happily agreed to allow a short test ride after I visited with them about my total miles on bikes. I signed the liability papers and with instructions from the sales guy on the roads with the least amount of traffic we set out for about a 20-mile ride on a 2012 RT and were convinced we'd made a good decision in telling a private owner we would buy his 2014 RT-L. 12K miles later I'm still luke-warm on satisfaction with the Spyder and still choose one of the bikes most of the time when riding solo, but the Spyder is always the choice for two-up rides.

Three years ago, I was riding a 2009 Yamaha Venture which I was finding increasingly difficult to handle at low speed/parking lot maneuvors.... last straw was when I caught my boot on the seat dismounting it and tipped it over.... avoided it landing on me but managed to rip both hands open on the gravel I dove onto. This was on a trip to Newfoundland and it was 2 days and 400km before we found a hospital to have my hands looked at.

I always liked the looks of spyders and had two riding buddies with them (an RTL and an F-3) but had never so much as sat on one. Came across a listing on Kijiji of a dealership 1500km away that had a demo unit with 1000km on it for sale...and since it was already September and the dealership was in Northern ONtario where snow can start falling anytime after Labour Day, it was heavily discounted (under $23,000 Canadian). So I hopped on a plane, had them pick me up at my motel the next morning, paid them and got the mandatory "Here's how you start it, here's how you shift into reverse" 20 minute overview, I hopped on and rode it 1500km home over two days!! First 100 km in pouring rain I thought I had made a HUGE mistake (not to mention it was +2C so FREEZING cold first thing in the morning) but by the time I got home I was hooked!! Now 3 years. thousands in "upgrades" and rides all over North America, I can safely say it is the best thing I have ever owned!! Love my Goblin!!

I've been riding 2 wheeled bikes for about 40yrs... Since 2005 I've been doing touring bikes. I put 150K on my 2004 Yamaha Venture sold it for my Harley Road Glide in 2017.. In 2020 my shoulder surgery failed and I was forced to give up riding. My shoulder can only lift / push 5-10 pounds max. I looked at 3 wheeled options.. Standard trike, I was not able to turn the handle bars at slow speeds. Just too heavy. At the suggestion of my Physical therapist, I took a test ride on a Spyder and found that I could ride it... I found a slightly used 2021 F3T in Cleveland Oh (May 2021)... I flew up and ride it back home to Virginia... I found that the standard bars caused stress on my shoulder so the short reach bars were the ticket. I've ridden my F3 to Daytona Fl, Manchester NH, The Outer-banks NC. to name a few places. This month I'm headed to Asheville NC then over to Columbia SC... It's not 2 wheel fun... It's 3 wheel fun!!!! With the condition of my shoulder It's better then not riding at all.. So Far almost 10K on the odometer and enjoying it.

Peru, Indiana about 2013 or 2014. It was a blue RTL and I fell in love. On my test ride, it started to rain. I thought, this sux. Then it started to hail. I thought, I'd better stop so I don't go down (hail = ice). Ended up riding back to the shop with zero issues. Decided right then that I would have one some day.

My first was in Moab Utah. Met our friends in our RV there. He had a motorcycle and thought it would be cool to tour the area. I rented a spyder for a day. Holy moly! Scared the you know what out of me. Going around corners I felt it was going to just go straight. Glad the end of the day came. Of course I said I would never own one. I've owned a 2012 RTS and now a 2016 RTS. I am thinking of selling the 16 and maybe getting a 2020 or newer for my last ride.

The first time my wife and I got to ride a spyder, the demo truck came to Spokane WA and set up at the Spokane Raceway park road course that has twisties and a long straightaway on the back side of the track. We got an orientation and a little practice on braking and turning and then got out on the track. The first couple laps we took it easy at 35 to 40 in the twisties and 65 on the straight to get the feel for the bike. Then we opened it up to 90mph on the straightaway and possibly a tiny bit faster in the twisties. We got to ride both solo and 2 up. This was in 2013 and in 2014 when the 1330 came out we bought the first bike and were hooked. I had ridden 2 wheelers for over 40 years and my wife for about 5 years. We were hooked. My wife had an accident on her 2 wheeler being clipped by another bike, and suffered through a dislocated shoulder that required surgery and a broken pelvis in 4 places. In 2017 we replaced her totaled 2 wheeler with a used 2014 RTS that didn't even have breakin miles that belonged to a club member that rarely rode. We have made many trips on these and during good weather are our main transportation. Without spyders we would no longer be riding.

My background with getting into Can-Am's started when the Covid pandemic hit in 2020. It wasn't even a week after our work sent everyone home to start working remotely when I saw it: on the TV in front of me, as I looked up from my laptop screen, this 3 wheeled motorcycle, moving through the urban streets and the country roads. It was a commercial for the Can-Am Ryker. I have never entertained the thought of riding a motorcycle before but after seeing this Ryker commercial, I was determined that I was going to have one.
I started to do some research and found that I could take a 2-day class so I could get my 3 wheel endorsement and also, contacted a local dealer to start searching for a Ryker for me. This was easier said than done as this was now at the height of the pandemic. The company that ran the 3 wheel course acknowledged that I was all signed up for my class in June but said I would have to watch my email as they were not sure if they would be able to keep the dates due to how bad covid was spreading. Fast forward to June and I received an email that my class was going to take place! And the dealer also contacted me saying that he just got in some Rykers and I would be all set to pick up my Ryker 600 the week after my class!

The class was awesome and I had a blast! The instructors were great and it was over in a flash! What didn't get over in a flash....going to the DMV to get my license updated with my 3 wheel endorsement. I could no longer go to my local DMV as that was a vehicle only DMV. NJ split the DMV's into ones that only do titles and other vehicle related paperwork and others that deal with licenses. I had to travel an hour and a half to get to the closest DMV so I could get my license updated. I then stood in line, which snaked around the whole grounds of the DMV, for 5 hours in the summer sun. Thankfully, I was able to endure and I was able to get my license updated with my endorsement. The following weekend, I picked up my 2020 Can-Am Ryker 600. WOW! What a feeling it was to be on the streets on this machine. I won't lie...the first couple of minutes were terrifying as the thought popped into my head, "the only thing that is holding me on this machine...is my hands!". After a few more twisties, that thought of terror faded away, replaced with exhilaration. The following spring, as I was ready to go for a ride, I spotted my wife in the doorway to our garage. I went over to her and she said, "I wish I could go with you". Excitedly I asked, "So, does that mean we can get a 2 seater?" To my greater excitement, she said OK. So in the late spring of 2021, we picked up our 2021 Can-Am Spyder F3 Limited. We both looked forward to our next ride of wind therapy! Every now and then, I asked her if she would want to try operating either bike but she was content with being a passenger. That was until the following spring where she said, "you know...I am thinking about taking the 3 wheel course to see if I like it or not". Well, not only did she like it....she loved it!! So now my wife and I go out on rides together...sometimes both on the Spyder, but other times, her following me on the Ryker.

As we crossed over into 2023, I got to thinking that, while the Ryker is a blast to ride....you can only do so for 30 to 45 minutes after you need to stop and get the feeling back into your rear end. I started to think that both my wife and I, who just both turned 50 in December, would benefit from getting another Spyder. Not only can you ride longer, but you are also a lot more visible to others and the suspension is much more smoother compared to the sport turned harsher ride of the Ryker. That brings us up to current time....me anxiously waiting for my 2023 Can-Am Spyder RT Limited Dark in Petrol Metallic to come into the dealership.

At the dealership where I bought it. A mate had a '14 RTL and would come to visit and offer it to me to take for a ride. I'd say "NO it's something my cheque book would have to resolve if I did" Another mate to the two of us, had me come to the city with him and we decided to go to one of the MC dealerships, and it was then I spotted my future mistress. Called the chief cook, we arranged a date to come down and do a test ride together - the deal was that if neither of us liked it the deal was off.

We took it for a test ride, stopped at a mountain lookout, she asked my thoughts "I don't like it", her face had that look of sadness - she loved it. I had a think about what I didn't like (too soft, poor handling, needed a stabiliser bar, very poor tyres) and came back and tested an F3 and realised that it was how BRP set them up that I didn't like. We paid for it there and then.

Slowly over time I have got it to the point it rides handles way better than OEM

In 07 the dealer in White Bear Lake had some demos. My wife got tired of my helmet in her face while riding my Beemer, and decided to try her own. She took the MSF course and passed! We found her a 250 Virago, and she was on her way. After a couple of years she wasn't yet comfortable on two wheels, so we went up to try Spyders. After a leisurely trip thru the neighborhood, we stopped in the dealer's driveway - she wanted more. Then we were out playing in traffic at 50+ mph, so we went home thought about it and ordered one for her. Unfortunately, it was delivered the first day of real snow that year (did try it around the block, but too big of a contact patch - no traction). Spring 08 we took to the neighborhood using the recommended riding course in the manual. She got comfortable rather quickly, and she was able to keep up with me, so we took trips. Eventually, we built our own RT, before BRP released theirs, with cruise (MCC from Australia), luggage (GIVI), and other farkles. The best part was someone had to road-test each addition (me), so I got VERY familiar with Spyders. We went to Canada, Dakotas, etc. having a ball. The next best was when I was recovering from a bout with Lyme disease, I HAD to ride, but my left leg could not hold up my 1/2-ton Beemer, so I traded it for my own RT. Still ryding at 76!

In 2014 Can Am was offering test rides at the dealers. So the wife and I rode on my 1996 HD Heritage Softail to Atlantic Power Sports and tested a 2014 RTL. I liked it the wife hated it. In 2017 my legs were bothering me, so I sold the Harley. In 2018 I needed to ride again, I missed it, the wife said she was done riding now that she had grand kids. So I was looking at the F3 and found a 2017 F3 LTD with 800 miles in Virginia at a dealer. I bought it sight unseen and never turned back.

On the way back, we spontaneously made a stop that Elk Grove Power Sports in Elk Grove, CA. Come to find out that they had an RT Limited that was a leftover STILL IN THE CRATE. They were willing to sell it at a heavily discounted price to make room for the new models.

A week later, we had an RTL in our garage.

So what was your first experience with a Can-Am ??

2007 November in Las Vegas at the SEMA Show
I did my test ride in 2007 when they first came out and I hadn't ridden a highway two wheeler or 3 wheeler since. My 22 F3S had been sitting in the showroom for about a year when I walked by to buy some parts for a lawnmower and asked what it had for equipment and price? I have had a 2 wheeler designation on my drivers license since about the 70's. After thinking about it for a week I decided to buy it since I wasn't getting any younger. It is now parked next to my 2019 Renegade XRS Turbo R (with MG highlights) with 180 HP.

I wrote a check, got the insurance and license plate and rode it home (my demo ride) a day later. I took it for a 200 mile round breakin trip, a day later and didn't care for the wind buffeting at 70 mph on the highway. Now I am waiting for a few accessories including a windshield and will do the same round trip to see how it goes.;)

Oct 2022. Had been looking at 3 wheelers and had just gotten my 3 wheeler endorsement via MSF course. Wife found a 2019 Spyder RTL in Phoenix Orange in Athens GA that had 3400 miles on it. Went to just look but ended up buying it after the owner took both of us pillion around the back roads where he lived.
Went back 2 weeks later with cash in hand. checked the bike out and lo and behold the tires were at 5-8 psi all around from just sitting. Had to drive 3 miles to station with air hose and put 20 psi in front and 28 in back.
Ride home was frankly awful. I85 in North GA has terrible pavement, badly broken in places, trucks were blasting past @ 80 mph and as you can guess the Spyder was getting blown around , plus me using death grip on bars. Once we got to Atlanta, we took back roads home which was better but I was thinking why did I do this.
Parked in garage and went for several weekend mini jaunts and started feeling better. My wife really liked riding pillion, but she kept saying...mebbe one for just her....
Then the DESS went bad and then battery died...so new battery, new DESS ( installed it myself) then took it to local dealer who did the first oil /filter change and I installed the BajaRon swaybar / endlinks and adjusted the tire pressure down. Rode much better. Had the bike laser aligned at Extreme Propulsion in Cartersville GA which further helped.
Finally just got to replacing the front Kendas with 165/60/15 Continental ContiProContacts. Big difference at high way speeds !
Finally happy ....

So a month ago, we finally went and started looking at new Spyders for her. Ended up at Extreme Propulsion as they had several RT, RTL and one Sea-to-Sky all 2023 in stock. They gave us a new RTL to drive and we both enjoyed it, esp the riding position/floor boards being better than the 2019 RTL. Got back and bought the Sea-to-Sky. Picked it up 1 week later and have been enjoying it greatly since. That one is my wifes ride as i had promised her the next Spyder would be hers.

I want say around 2008 in Moab. We met some friends there to camp and have fun. He always brought his MC and a jeep. We just towed our civic. Anyway, I rented a spyder for a day and we toured. Swore I would never own one as they were just to weird to drive/ride. I am now on my 3rd one. Does that mean I like them?

My first time was over the 4th of July weekend this year when I rented an F3-S for a week. I was considering making the move from 2 wheels to 3 and decided renting one was a good idea. I wanted to see if I could tolerate commuting on one (I live in California and am used to being able to filter through heavy traffic). Plus since it was so hot, I figured if I could tolerate commuting for a week in the worst California commute conditions then the rest of the time would be okay.

I ended up buying a new one a couple of weeks ago and couldn't be more pleased.

The first time I drove a trike was when I picked-up my 2022 Spyder from the dealer and drove it home about an hour away.

Almost a year later I still find it squirrelly on the highway, but I like it on backroads and in the city. Unfortunately the nearest Spyder laser alignment place is about 14 hrs away. So until I can tow it there, I'll just have to live with it.
