I'm in southern Ohio and I ride 555 often. Two wheels and three. If you are planning on riding 555 yet this season be aware that most of the road is narrow and this is harvest season in Ohio. Lots of small farms on 555 and nothing like topping a hill or rounding a curve and finding a piece of farm machinery taking BOTH lanes. There isn't anywhere to the sides to go to especially on three wheels. The worst happens every year. Lots of driveways and side roads as well as other state routes intersecting as well. Not trying to be a downer, just letting you know this isn't Deals Gap and this isn't a closed course. Caution is warranted.

Just by chance, I chased my buddy and his goldwing down the 555 shortly before the article came out. Fun road (even have a video up with some of the route)! https://youtu.be/nrj1kz1_u90

Triple nickel is a blast. That diner had the best Rubin sandwich last June for $7.00. My wife and I ran it and I can say we just smiled. ( got to watch the horse turds though:D) It’s a very fun ride! Rick ( value accessories) puts on a rally every June there for 3 wheels. Last year was the first time we’d been in that area with the spyder. We’re going again next year for sure! There was 2 - 89 year olds there from Iowa last year that made the trek on their spyders!

thanks for the info.. great pics and descriptions by the magazinel.. HOWEVER, can't see how they could eliminate Iron Mountain Road and Needles Highway in the Black Hills of South Dakota?????

Rode the 555 this June on the way to Yellowstone. It's a fun road with lots of clear sailing sections but as mentioned, plenty of hazards if you're at a 'spirited' pace. I also disagree with the Rider list. I haven't been on many they list but I'm surprised they chose the Snake over so many other fantastic named roads in the Smokies and Shenandoah Valley or the SD area roads.

Those aren't "horse turds". That's "Amish horsepower exhaust."

Juat an FYI. I rode 555 today on two wheels and the section between Chester Hill and Bartlett is closed for roadwork. The detour is 377 and 550 which are very nice roads as well. I cut across Plantsville Rd, but I was on two wheels and could pick my line. Be rather bumpy on three wheels.
