thats why the character os laughing in my signature folks. APprently BRP isnt real picky on living up to their claims in this regard as many with the PE edition are way over what they said they would make

. . . . Have you asked BRP? It seems to me, an email to them would get you the answer on how you can tell if you have a Phantom Limited Edition. Some sources say the number of Phantom builds was 1,500, see below.

A quick look at the BRP site, was not helpful, but I only did a quick look. Like a lot of cars and trucks, Limited may only represent a special trim package deal and not a collector's serial #, which has pretty much become a worthless marketing tool.

Back in April, they explained the difference in the numbers for PEs and the number of Spyders that "qualified" for PE (Premier Edition) status. Here is the link to that: http://spyder.brp.com/en-US/Share/Community/News-Detail.html?ArticleID=ebea5b8d-e43a-41d8-a720-bdb6061c860a

I have never asked the company but many many dealers advertise them as such EG:

2009 Spyder GS Phantom Black LTD Edition SM5 RoadsterIN STOCK, LIMITED EDITION, ONLY 500 MADE!!!$19537.00http://www.marksmotorsports.biz/default.asp i dont care i love the look of it and thought it was a good deal since I only paid 1500.00 more than a full moon and I would have bought the fog light kit anyway. Ohh and i didnt pay NEAR 19537 for mine.

Talked to BRP today and the woman I talked to had no idea how many were made. She thought 500, but the last five of my VIN is 526.
She asked a couple of people in the office and they were clueless also.

I would not think the VIN would indicate much, since the Phantom is made up of special colored body parts and a set of specific accessories, they could put them on any Spyder waiting to be shipped. I would doubt that they would make 500 Phantom Spyders and then outfit them one after another. I would guess that after the first bunch that were sent to dealerships and for Shows, they would wait to make the next ones when the orders came in.

If it was done as a true collector item, I would think they would have stamped or labeled one of the parts - like the inside of the trunk hood - with that information. But, what I think seldom has any relationship to the real world - something everyone should be thankful for.

The bottom line is that the Phantoms are a great looking Spyder, with top grade accessories.

I've never heard that they were limited editions. Hmmm. I know you can buy all the parts and convert to a 'Phantom'.

BRP isn't very good at simple math--- ask any PE owner----:roflblack:

#197 here, if the VIN is an indication.

Limited edition or PE just means you probably paid more for the bike than others. Since there are so many PEs out there (the original PE, the phantom PE and now the RT PE .... and none of these have gone as planned). So, its just a fad.

model number is next to vin on bike also. if yours says a15n Ozzie then maybe thats not an indication of it being a phantom. Again it has been promoted as a limited eidtion by dealers (numerous including mine). truth was I wanted th elooks of the phantom and only paid 1500 more for it and though that was a good deal. if you bought one for its limited edition numbers...well my feel is you got taken. IMHO it looks better than any other stock spyder they have produced by far and that includes the RT but thats just my opinion.

i do have a 09 phantom with the a19n model # , and the vin# ends with 560? i guess the vin #'s are not sequential or they made over 500 of these. i also purchased this for the looks and not the limited edition #, but it would be nice to know that i'm one of the few worldwide..

All I know is when BRP made the PE's--- it was originally supposed to be 1,500. Then they upped it to 2,500 ---- and many got numbers up in the 3,400 range.

It is what it is--- buy it to ride.

true you can turn any spyder into a phantom. It would be nice to know if there is an indication on our buikes though that actually denotes it as a phantom. From a true collectors standpoint this would be a need to know item. There are people in this world that would want to know that and quite honestly for it to be advertised as a limited edition by the company and dealers only to find it is not is deceptive at best. Do a google search for 2009 spyder phantom and youll find many dealerships offering it as a limited in production to 500.

Hey XXX 74 - I have no idea, I bought mine strictly for the lack of color. Being "Exclusive" has nothing to do with what I ride, it will eventually rot away along with my body. Just havin fun while I'm alive..:D

Hey its only got three wheels and two of which are in the front. How much more exclusive do we need to get? I feel like a rock star everywhere I go with people eye balling the bike.

 That is what it all about... :agree:

Still leaves you quite shy of all the phantom add-on's though.....

yeah... but with the extra cash I would do other changes to the spyder.. that is just me... paying extra for a color or for something they said it was limited only to find out that you can buy it on ebay is simply wrong on BRP... refund !

Again you can make any spyder look like a phantom. However from a collectors satndpoint it appears the a19n indicates it is a phantom. Least thats what I understand. I bought the phantom becasue of the color, fog lights and rims whihc if purcashed seperately would add up to a lot more than the extra 1500.00 i paid for my phantom. You say you would spend the money on extras for the phantom. well if those extras include the body kit, wheel kit, fog lights, seat cover, and billet cover up products it CAN be a really good deal even if they made 5000 of em.
