The service manual says the tension should be 1050 n if you convert newton meters to foot pounds that equals over 700 ft pounds which cannot be correct. I cannot find a n conversion chart only in m Newton meters. Does anybody know a foot pound spec
for the belt I am using a cricket gauge

I and others here feel the OEM spec is too high ( over 210 lbs.) .... I measure mine wheel on the ground using a KritKit guage at 160lbs .... and I have no vibes .... good luck .... Mike

It is simply in pounds or Newtons, not foot pounds or Newton Meters. For me, the Krikit only agrees with the sonic measurement if I use the Krikit on the bottom run of the belt. I think it has to do with alignment of the gauge, a straight push, and being centered between pulleys. It's harder to screw up the sonic measurement.

Manual spec: 236# ± 33.7# or 1050 N ± 150N

I tried the lower numbers and crept up until I didn't have any whine/noise from the belt. It is now on 190 with the rear wheel on the ground. Not that there was anything wrong with the 160 that Blueknight911 use's for me it was a noise issue.

My rear pulley has considerable run-out, so there is a lot of difference between the 'tight spot' and the 'loose spot' (~20#). Mine is set to 190# (loose spot) and 210# (tight spot). As I go lower from that setting, the vibration point moves from 75mph down. At 160#, the vibration is at ~65mph and is worse. The setting seems to vary from bike-to-bike and from measurer-to-measurer. Unfortunately, you'll have to discover what works (and what you measure) for you and your bike.

If the Spyder has a belt tensioner on it is the tension rate the same and do you check it with the tensioner on the belt or off the belt?

I check mine without the tensioner touching the belt.

K80,
Do you adjust it to the lower spec when you do that?

K80,

I adjusted it to 190 in the center of the belt with the tire on the ground then released the tensioner.
