Having limp home probs and someone suggested using a BUDS system to reset the Steering Angle Sensor. Anyone know the location of such a system?

Why do you think its the steer angle sensor?

I see you have another thread started about the VSS.

trikermutha,

Well, I'm at a loss w/the VSS issue and someone suggested the steer angle sensor might be the cause. With no dealer in Hawaii, I'm willing to try just about anything.

Don't really want to teach those who already know how to suck eggs, but for those who don't already know, BUDS is the BRP User/Dealer's Computer Diagnostic System for BRP/Can-Am products... and Phil, if there's not already someone in Hawaii who owns it that you can borrow/buy a service from, then you might need to consider buying it & a licence, the necessary cable etc. :dontknow:

You can get a variety of different 'Level' BUDS Programs & licences for different lengths of time too, ranging from a one machine/limited capability/limited time package for maybe a couple of hundred dollars right thru to a Megatech multi-machine/multi-year package for maybe more than ten times the price that will let you do all sorts of things that most Dealers can't even do!! (Things like turn the DESS off completely!) AFAIK, they aren't massively expensive, altho possibly beyond the 'value for money' scope of someone who only wants to check & reset their Steering Angle Sensor; but once purchased, you can load it up on a notebook computer & plug your Spyder into it to do whatever your particular package & licence will allow for as long as it'll allow! :ohyea: But do check up with other purchasers to see which products/sellers to avoid... IIRC, there is one based in one of the Slavic Countries who is a bit difficult to deal with, but there are others.

Maybe you could contact all the other Hawaii based Spyder/Ryker owners to discuss/consider a 'group purchase'?? Or if you are that way inclined, purchase a multi machine package yourself & charge a modest fee to connect up all the other's machines as & when required? :dontknow: . Both have been done successfully in a few places, South Oz included. Food for thought?

You know if you buy the module and cable I think they give you a free month of usage of the BUDS.

The VSS System has several sensors.

VSS Sensors: TYPICAL 1. Wheel speed sensor (rear) 2. Wheel speed sensors (front) 3. Vehicle control module (VCM) 4. Steering angle sensor (SAS) 5. Yaw rate sensor (YRS) 6. Pillion rider sensor (PRS) 7. Oil level sensors (BFS) 8. Brake light switch (BLS) and low pressure switch (LPS)

The reason I suggested resetting the Steering Angle Sensor is:

The Steering Angle Sensor is one of the inputs to the VSS. If you take a long sweeping turn, it is possible the system will react as if the steering is in a skid and will go into limp mode. It will not set a code and is reset by turning off the ignition and turning it back on. If the Steering Angle Sensor is slightly out of adjustment, this error may happen prematurely if there is a long turn to one side. Resetting the Steering Angle Sensor was suggested merely to eliminate this possibility.
