Not sure if anyone else on here is a fan of long range "buffalo gun" shooting (or just a fan of the movie, "Quigley Down Under"), but the 2020 Matthew Quigley Buffalo Rifle Match in Forsythe, Montana has been called off. I was really looking forward to this year being my first ever as a competitor. :gaah:

Guess I'll just use the time to cast a few hundred more thumb-size projectiles and try to figure out which end of the boom-stick to point at the target while stabbing wildly at the triggers... Any of y'all make it out Sheridan, Wyoming way, look me up and we can go up to the Sportsmen's Club and whack away at some 800 yard steel.

I am not even sure I can SEE that far let along hit anything.

Definitely a fan of Quigley Down Under!

While I can see that far Pegasus you would probably do better than me just pointing it in the general direction!

I've done competative muzzle loader shooting at 50 and 100 yards, but 800 yards is another ballgame.

If you can make it over here, we have some of the finest riding in the USA. We're at the base of the Bighorns, and only a few hours from the Black Hills and the Beartooth and Chief Joseph Highways. Wife and I are always happy to offer suggestions or play tour guide!

Film was shot just south of you in Victoria, IIRC. Still one of my all-time favorite "westerns", and I ended up getting a Pedersoli version of the rifle in the movie.

I love front-stuffers, too, and I'm putting together a full-stock .54 cal. Hawken these days. Unfortunately, with the exception of a Whitworth, most don't have the sights and are not capable of the accuracy needed for the really long-range stuff. I have a hard enough time with micrometer-type Soule sights and a yard-long sight radius on a cartridge breech-loader!

We use a front blade sight and custom fitted flip-up peep sights in the rear. Shoot off-hand, not even allowed to use a sling.
