I took the GPS off my old bike before I traded it in so I needed a way to mount it. The BRP mount is nice, but way more than I wanted to spend. I've seen a couple other top clamp mount plates, but they all seem to use Ram mounts which are great if you need the adjustability but seem too much if you don't. So I grabbed some calipers, a couple bits of scrap aluminum, the lathe, the mill, and the welder and made my own. It would have been much simpler to make from steel but I need the practice with aluminum and I could always redo it later. Also I haven't wired it yet because I'm waiting till I decide which heated grips I'm installing so I can do both at the same time.

I made a simple bracket with 14 gauge steel bent. Mounted to the existing bar clamp with #10 screws. I love it. Yours looks great! Minimalist of which I am a fan.

Way cool, looks sweet and the location is clean / uncluttered.

Seeing the install on your Spyder, if mine I would somehow black out the fasteners to make them disappear.

Just paint them black with Duplicolor truck bed liner. Matches the textured OEM PC. Touch ups are invisible. Just spray into the cap and daub on with a little brush.

Using the excellent advice of Rattlebars (Thanks!) I picked up the correct connector from amazon for small money, soldered that onto my existing GPS harness and got the whole thing wired up.

Wire routed, ziptied to OEM harness.

Connected to OEM GPS connector. I added a few more zip ties after the pic was taken.

Thanks! That's a Zumo 396. Took it out for a ride the other day with my wife (her on her Ryker) and the GPS was in the perfect spot.

Looks like a nice unit! Please let me know if the "curves ahead" and other warnings works well and if you can turn it off. I had a Garmin 56 that included those warnings and the first time I took it out in the mountains on my Cleo Chapman Highway route (made it in Base Camp) it would sound all the time to the point it locked up the upper bar where it once had told me what turn was coming up! Really bad. My 57 doesn't but still bugs me with school zones whether or not they even exist or not. Injoy!

You can see my Ohio and some South Carolina routes with downloadable gpx and kml files for garmins and map illustrations like shown.

That is a great job, and next level DIY project. Metal is the last medium I have to learn how to work with and fabricate.
