View Full Version : No more foot on brake during startup

Within the past few weeks, I have noticed that I no longer need to have my foot on the brake to startup my Spyder (2017 RTS with about 9K miles)....even on the first start of the day. The computer still cycles through the startup procedure fine, and I still have to press the ECO button (unless the bike has only been off for very short time), but no foot on the brake is needed. Bike is running perfect.

Wonder if I should be concerned? It's totally fine for me to have it this way, unless it's a symptom of an upcoming big problem. P.S. I always put my bike in Neutral before putting on the parking brake and shutting down, if that makes any difference.

I'm going to have my rear Kenda Kanine put on by a dealer as soon as weather permits, I suppose I could have them run a BUDS diagnostic. Just curious....would rather not pay the dealer for some expensive sensor/switch if it's ok as-is.

Your Spyder is working as it should. If the bike is in neutral there is no need to have your foot on the brake pedal. Only if your bike is in gear do you need to apply the brake pedal and the transmission will shift out of gear to neutral so you are able to start the bike.

Lol, you would think after 3 years of riding the bike I would have noticed that..:p I guess I just mis-read the owners manual and thought you had to have the brake depressed no matter what. I just re-read the manual, the language they use isn't exactly clear but I see what they meant now.
