No worries, we are planning on being back on board by August. We were selected to be Experience Specialists, where we will have a truck and a trailer stuffed with 4 brand spanking new 2020 Spyder Rt’s, visiting dealerships and leading test rides! Our operational area is primarily Texas, with a few other states thrown in! Our Never Ending Road Trip starts with training in Florida starting in 2 weeks! We are so excited to do this! Imagine, getting paid to take folks on rides on a completely redesigned Spyder! So, we are trading riding and wrenching for riding and fun! Hope to see everyone on our trip!!

Thank you for the kind words. 10 years and we are an overnight success! 2000 Spyders properly aligned, and thousands more repaired. MSF Safety instructor, Total Control Three wheel instructors, Ann being the highest mileage Spyder Rider on the planet, might have qualified us. We hope we can share our passion and introduce people to the joy of riding. I have been a rider for nearly 50 years! I’ll admit, Ann is a far better Spyder Ryder. By far! Most folks know I still ride 2 wheels. I’ll continue as long as I can. I do love Spyders, and see me on one. Meanwhile, our focus is to showcase the 2020 RT.

Sounds cool. When you say training, I take that to mean, teaching others the details about the rider features of the new machines. Or are you doing maintenance training classes for shop employees?

At a guess, Route 1 Motorsports? Or is this 5 days at multiple dealers around Florida?

You folks should make good Ambassadors for the product. Your knowledge about the product is a great asset to all who are interested.

There are currently some questions about adjustability of the RT concerning handlebars. Can you post up any information you may know in that thread?

I wish you well on your travels and it will be interesting to get reports on how the 2020 RT’s perform during the period you have them

Handlebars look like F3 bars, so will/should adjust. Once I have laid hands on, I’ll be able to answer questions. Feel free to post them in this thread, and I will address them as I learn. Looking forward to learning all about them!

Our week of training is at the BRP facility in Melbourne. Then, our area is Texas, plus Houma, Hattiesburg, and Little Rock. We are going thru Panama City, probably the following week. I’ll find out if stops are allowed. Remember, we are representing BRP, and they set the schedule. When we work for ourselves, we are the boss. So, call me after 25 January, and I’ll know.

Our sector is controlled by a company with 4 other sectors. Our 5 are together. There are 6 other teams, deployed across the country. I’ll find out what I can, and share what they let me. I already pointed out folks are/will ask this very question! I hope to get a list of dealers and dates. Meanwhile, ask your dealer if they are doing it.

We only had 2 rallies on the radar for the next 6 months - Spyders on the Bayou, and PAC NW. We are back on the job come July. Deadwood, Texas, Florida. If other events materialize, we will go, and are always available for local clubs. We just did an event in Albuquerque (Rio Rancho), and will probably go to Tracy, CA. If it makes sense, we go.

Years ago, one of the group rides took us there. Was the weekend and the place was closed. Guessing security was working. Not much to see from the outside. A building and reasonably large fenced compound. Not sure, but would suspect that during the week you would be run off by security. Unless you had a drone, I doubt you could see much if anything from the nearest public road.

Hmmm, PMK good comment based on some history; to the layman, seems there's nothing to hide by BRP, the up side is the 2020 RT gets some good publicity but what do I know? Maybe there are other motives, restrict production, increase curiosity? Interested folks like me looking in through the restrictive bars don't have clue, and so I stay tuned looking for bits and pieces of reports that hopefully flow to this forum.

He also does BMW's. He posts what he works on; if he gets several Spyders in for service, that's what you'll see. I'd imagine once the 2020's start rolling in and need assembly you'll see more Spyder content.

Just catching up on this thread and, boy, Joe, I'm (am sure we all are) jealous!!!
My wife saw the advert for the Experience Specialist and shared it with me...and was really into the idea.
I hesitated, for a number of reasons, including being relatively new to the Spyder (3rd year just started), heading into my first full year as an MSF BRC coach, and mostly having absolutely no idea how to drive a truck or pull a trailer...heck, I can barely manage the 10 c.f. cart behind my lawn tractor!
Looking forward to hearing about your and Ann's experiences and will be following this thread.
And maybe, just maybe, next year...
Enjoy the ryde!

Two very good questions Paul, wondering that myself. I was also wondering about the belt drive tensioner, is there or not there, if not, does it need one? The tech guys said the bar is the same as old, but the chassis was changed. Seem to handle very well. On the alignment, I’m not allowed to wear my Squared Away hat......
I left my lasers at home. I will be back to that in August, and can provide an opinion. As always, I’ll check it for free. If it’s good, cool. If not, I’ll fix it. But, when I’m not working for them.

Trying to consolidate 2020 RT questions here. Latest question is:
Will my 15’ trailer hitch fit? I know Hotglue has one, and I’ll see him today. I’ll try it. The part number is different, but, might be that the differences are in the harness. Another question was “how do you remove the rear seat”? The answer is raise front seat with key turn, reach under, undo 2 catches, remove seat. The rear trunk is removable. Turn release, lift, push safety catch, lift, unplug, remove. The trick to put it back is the catch has to be aligned to let it click in. Took a bit of practice, so, try it at home a couple of times to get it down.

Same as the old one, it appears. While some broke, once people figured out you can’t leave it full up or down, fewer broke. I have only fixed 4, and Ann’s was under warranty, so I did not have to fix it. In 72,000 RT’s, if 72 broke I would be shocked. Not a high failure rate.

Tonight we noticed a new feature on the 2020RT that we hadn’t previously seen. There is a light inside the rear trunk that comes on with the key in the On position. I don’t remember there being a light in the F3 Ltd rear trunk but I could be wrong. Nice feature when you’re fumbling around after dark

Hi Ann,
Are you at liberty to give opinions on the new RT vs. your F3-T. Things like handling, comfort, feel of power(because of 79 tooth rear spocket vs. your 89t). Also I know your a manual trans fan, as am I. How do your like driving the semi auto? If you can't offer opinions publicly, I'd love a PM.

Thanks,

The 2020 is definitely quicker and more responsive than the older RTs, I love the way it looks and the added storage and features like LED headlights are great.

I am tall and have long legs and it fits me much better than the older models with a stock seat. Yesterday I had to lead a ride and I was on a 19 RT and it quite frankly sucked! The new model has the longer floorboards and the brake pedal is now in a position where you can just move your foot over to use it unlike on the 13-19 where I had to pick up my foot to engage the brake.

We have had several couples on test rides and they all really like the added seat space. It’s not quite Goldwing room but it’s getting closer!

I still enjoy shifting so I won’t be getting rid of my manual transmission anytime soon but paddle shifting is nice. The only thing that bugs me about it is when it downshifts to 1st gear.

So your question was to compare the new RT to the F3. The RT is still a mid controls seating unlike the forward controls on an F3, and you don’t have the U-fit option for the brake like you do on an F3. Other than that, (which is huge if you are really short, really tall or have hip issues) the new RT is superior to the F3.

Joe,

It sure is a small world. We went on a test ride yesterday out of Masa, and the ride leader (who was from Minnesota, but now lives in Arizona) when I asked him if he was in Florida for training he said "How did I know that" I told him Joe and Ann. He than said "Of course".
Also I will be loaning out trailer to Frank so he can pick up a new to them Spyder that he told me you set him up with the seller. They are meeting in Texas on February 21.

Ann, thanks so much for your review of the new 2020 RT. We met at Spyderfever in Iowa in 2018. I had a F3 Daytona that you guys checked alignment on and it was one of the few Spyders that was in align. We talked than about our F3's with the manual trans. We both agreed we couldn't give up the manual or the handling of the F3. It is nice to hear your review, because I think we come from a similar perspective on Spyders(I'm tall too).

I found a used F3-T with 7600 miles and a rare manual trans this past fall so I traded off the Daytona. My wife and I do a lot of 2-up riding and it's going to be nice to have the rear air suspension and dash console for better windshield options. Haven't been able to put many miles on the T yet(we live in Minnesota), but I think I'm going to really like it. In the back of my mind I wondered if I should of waited for the 2020 RT. I think your review confirms my purchase. Maybe I'll be ready for the RT in a few years.

Just a quick suggestion.... DO NOT put any signs on the trailer, you should not advertise what is in the trailer
but you know that... I would hate to hear about some bad guys stealing it while you are in the hotel sleeping.
Congratulations on the new venture....Will I see you at SENA in November ?

No worries, we are planning on being back on board by August. We were selected to be Experience Specialists, where we will have a
truck and a trailer stuffed with 4 brand spanking new 2020 Spyder Rt’s, visiting dealerships and leading test rides!

Judging from this map, https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/map.html, we've got at least a couple of months before it all quiets down good. Looking at the China graph it flattened out at about 1 month and the recovered number approaches the total confirmed number at about 2 months. On the one hand China took very aggressive action early on to slow down people's movements and that undoubtedly helped a lot to slow it down. The US has been a lot more lax in clamping down on movement so the slow down of one month in China could be 2 here in the US. At this moment the map shows Louisiana has 77 confirmed, 1 death, 76 active, and 0 recovered. I think I'd stay away from LA for now.

bikerbillone
04-08-2020, 11:17 AM
Pretty much lying low, not much in the after mkt yet for the 2020, so I'm giving it some time to catch up, I must have some passenger arm rests, but the BRMs are gold, and not sure the swing side or fold up. Swing to side I think squeeze the passenger mount and dismount, so I gotta get more information. Some have dug into the 2020, but mentally I'm not prepared to do that yet. I can see myself pulling off Tupperware and wrecking something that cost many $, I'm thinking there will be some You Tubes out soon, so I can follow that and not screw something up. I'm letting the dealer do the 3K oil change and inspection, then I'll probably start doing the oil changes. A back rest, I think I can do without, but the first long ride will tell. I do want to get the hex oil drain plugs from LaMonster Garage to facilitate an easier oil change, but plenty of time for that. SpyderPops should b in Deland FL Syder rally in June of next year, so I'll be there spend some $.

Sadly, we are done. If they start up another tour, we are ready! Like everyone else, we are in a holding pattern. We are taking work at home. We have done a few jobs since we got home, and have a few more lined up. If anyone needs something, call!

Sorry to hear they've pulled the plug on the tour, but I certainly understand why. I hope BRP re-establishes the tour at some point in the future. I crossed paths with the FL guys at three different spots (ryding once), it certainly is the best way to sell a great trike. Stay healthy and safe.

Flspyder, agree with that, I think they were instrumental in my purchase. I've come to the conclusion that BRP runs their own show without owner suggestions, but then I could be wrong, I'm not an insider. Who am I to question success?

But we are not doing any work at home until things chill out a bit.
