Good Evening, Hope everyone that can is still riding. Here in Chicagoland we never got our Indian Summer for a few last rides. Well when I took my tupperware off for an oil and filter and air filter change I noticed the top clip on both mirrors were missing. Is the top one the common one to be missing. I think I'm gonna get me some magic mirrors for Christmas. Thanks, Mike

" the top clip is missing " …. how is this possible, unless the mirror fell off that piece can't possibly dis-appear from the inside of the housing ….. my Guess is this occurred at your dealer during servicing ….. I think you should get them to fix their error ….. good luck …. Mike :ohyea:

There is no top clip on RT mirrors. The top part is a round disc called a Housing, PN 219800158, with an inverted U-shaped notch in it and is held to the mirror by two Phillips head screws. The Housing fits on a Spherical Head Stud, PN 705004323. Improperly attempting to remove mirrors can easily break the Housing.

That's a pretty good thought for a Christmas present Mike!

Those top 'clips', or more properly, the top 'U shaped notch' fittings on the RT mirrors either breaking thru use or being broken by 'ham fisted techs' was one of the major reasons that drove the initial development of the Magic Mirror mounts.

Maybe it's our rough roads, or maybe it's cos we get access to fewer specialist BRP trained techs, but for whatever reason, here in Australia most Spyder RT Ryders with mirror issues had clearly identifiable problems with those top fittings losing their guts & failing well before anyone even thought about the bottom wire fittings spreading/bending & becoming an issue! So the Magic Mirror mounts were initially developed to address the replacement of just the top fittings; but while we were in there thinking about how to make the top mounts work properly & easily every time, we thought "why not change ALL the mounts & make the whole neanderthal mirror fit/re-fit thing a lot gentler & easier?" :dontknow: The 6 magnet Magic Mirrror sets were the result - no more OE mirror fitting issues at all, regardless of which particular fittings are failing on your mirrors! :ohyea:

The only draw-back I can see about getting yourself a set of Magic Mirrors for Christmas will be that you might not get to play with them after installation anywhere near as much as the rest of us have, especially if your Spyder goes into winter hibernation.... :gaah: Those of us who don't hafta contend with hibernation & the subsequent Spyder deprivation usually get to fit them & then we just can't resist repeatedly taking the mirrors off & letting them jump back on again, even to the extent of fabricating excuses to do that, just cos mirror removal/re-fit with Magic Mirrors is sooo much more enjoyable & easier than it ever was with the OE mounts! :ohyea:

Merry Christmas!

I never totally put her away for the winter. I have a 5 mike course I lay out and on a day when the roads are dry and clean I take her out for a spin but I am jealous of your weather

If you take your Spyder out for a ride and don't go a distance that allows the engine to completely warm up, that is getting the engine oil to full operating temperature, which will be dependent on the ambient temperature of the day, you will wind up with condensation in the oil -- bad juju.

I always let her warm up 1st before I take her out

Magic Mirrors are a very good option. The movers broke the left mirror mount on the 2014 RT. Magic Mirrors were a great fix.

Well I got my Magic Mirrors and put them on and they work great and are a very easy install.

I can vouch once again that you have to be very careful with them or they will smash a finger trying to mate to one another. Once before I ordered my own magnets and got my finger smashed between two of them and now it happened again. The ones I got before all broke on me when they kept clanging together. This time I got a little blood blister. Oh well.

I also have the Magic Mirrors, I have no regrets.

I installed the Magic Mirrors my self.

You can go to Gallery " My Albums" on page 1 for pictures.

Yep, Get the Magic Mirrors, they are great. Also get the lanyards to hold them in case they come off. Not likely during normal driving, but in an accident I had in May, when another motorcycle rider pulled out in front of me, I lost both in the impact and it pulled the wiring harnesses apart from the inside. They were replaced in my rebuild.

I did a lot of research on the Magnet ( for mirrors ) thing ….. Magnets are pretty fragile and are basically cast metal.... ( magnets aren't found - they are created …. Rare earth is a misnomer ) …. What I learned was if the magnets are epoxied inside a steel cup, they will still break, ( I know I hit one with a hammer and broke it " on purpose " as a test ) …. however the pieces won't go anywhere  … and the broken pieces remain with the same polarity …. annnnnnnnnnnd they actually increase in strength.... Un-fortunately the ones that come in the cups have a center hole that is too small for the OEM bolt ….. I contacted a seller of magnets and had them make some with a 7mm hole ….. Mike :ohyea:

I found some the exact diameter and the hole was the right size but I broke all but one just handling the. I thought I could jb weld them back together but their polarity becomes independent with each one and the parts do not stay together yn the same pattern as the were before to make them hole again. I could have make my oun magic mirror kit but didn't. Gettin lazy and impatient in my old age I guess. Thanks, Mike
