I can't really answer your question, but I really want to see the video when that thing goes over a speed bump.

Interesting so far. Very true on the speed bump comment for #1. That takes "low rider" to a new extreme.

RE: The Ape Hanger clip. The very first clip, the man in brown leathers, I believe is Dennis Rodman. He is shown with his entourage entering Sturgis for the big rally a few years back. This was shown on a Sturgis biker clip around the same time.

I get a back ache just watching those people try to ride stretched out like that. Don't even bring up the safety issues. :yikes:

Those clips do take customizing to a new level.

It's all about memories.

Although I do think some of these wild bikes have some great bodywork and paint.

It is the latest silly fad in customizing.

I tried to mimic (ape) the seating position they were in while watching the video. As I sat in my leather recliner with my feet stretched out in front and arms in the air, all my weight went right to my tailbone and it wasn't comfortable even in the recliner. Can't imagine riding like that, not to mention the bug collection accumulation in the arm pits..... Jim

There is a picture of a Spyder with ape hanger bars on it...somewhere in the archives. Try around 2010.

Absobloodylutely NUTHIN' from me on the why/what question too :dontknow:

But I have seen a few of those monstrosities in the flesh, and the 'low rider' stance thing is acheived with air suspension that lets them settle on their skid plates when they're stopped, in lieu of having to prop them on a side-stand or centre stand! Apparently having to use a 'stand' would mean adding said stand & that'd break up their 'clean lines' & make them look 'ugly'?!? :roflblack:

There again, beauty clearly IS in the eye of the beholder, and we can see that it most definitely takes all sorts of (infinitely variable?!) types! :2thumbs:

My shoulders begin to ache and go numb if I hold my arms up in those positions too long.

It is all in what you want to do. Some people look at us the same way when we pull up on a spyder. I still say, as long as you are riding and happy, enjoy the ride and ride on.
As for the amount of time and distance that one can ride in some of those positions, what is the excuse for so many people having spyders that are 4-5 years old and only having 5k miles or less? Same thing.
Just ride your ride, and let others do the same. Enjoy what you do, and do what you enjoy.

Everyone has a choice of what they like to ride, they are probably saying the same thing about us riding our Spyders.
