Just looking for some general info. Is the SE shifting automatic like a car or do you hit the paddle shifters. Not a big deal but I can't seem to get info if it shifts without the paddles being hit or it is just automatic. Going for a test ride next week. Thanks

It is supposed to automatically downshift but you must upshift on your own. You can downshift on your own also, if desired. It's not automatic like a car.

To upshift (1 to 2, 2 to 3, etc.) you must press the paddle. You MAY downshift (5 to 4, 4 to 3, etc.) using the paddle but the computer will downshift automatically at around 2500 RPM if you haven't yet (~1500 RPM 2nd to 1st only).

The SE requires that you hit the button (not really a paddle) to shift, however, it will DOWNSHIFT (only) at 1800 RPM, without other input from the rider.

I do not think of the SE as an automatic, rather (like Honda's) an ES (electric shift).

Hope that helps.

You will have to manually upshift but make sure you don't try to upshift at anything less than 3500 RPMS (best results stay at 4500 or better) the downshifting you can do or let the computer downshift for you.

The downshift points are about 2500 RPMS for all gears except 1st and its 1500 rpms to downshift to 1st. I will generally downshift manually and let the computer shift it into first.

...posts have answered your question... I'll just add that the bike's transmission will downshift to 1st gear so when at a Red light or Stop sign, you are ready to go. :2thumbs:

That is NOT the time to do a throttle twist to show/sound off your new muffler!!!

This is very good information. If you feel the need to roll the throttle to show off that exhaust make sure to hit the - to put it in nuetral first
