Good afternoon all. Hope most of you are having a cooler day where you are all at. 103 today, yesterday 105. First hot weather of the summer for us.
I get a loud clunk when the transmission is shifted into 1st. from neutral. Is that a normal sound? The transmission shifts beautifully between gears, up and down, I was just curious if this normal for a spyder. I have been a Harley rider for the last 20 years, so a little transmission noise is not uncommon, but on a spyder? Thanks to all................

Perfectly normal---- nothing to worry about - all Spyders do that.

Not only Spyders... virtually every other bike I've had did that, too.

Yup, a clunk is normal esp. if you are stopped when you shift from 2nd to 1st - I always get the Spyder in 1st gear before coming to a full stop while riding and the clunk is way less/smaller.
I also always leave it in 1st when parked - so I never have to use the parking "brake" and start it in 1st with the clutch in - less clunks that way ;)

Jim -- as you can tell by reading, the transmission noise is normal... No noise -- suspect trouble.

...Also enjoyed viewing your photo's... Thanks:thumbup:

My old Sportster had more of a CRASH than a clunk when coaxed gently into low gear.

Spydies clunk is..no biggie.;)

Mine clunks really loud unless I wait for the engine to settle in to normal idle then it isn't too bad. That extra 200 RPMs makes a big difference.

Haven't had a bike that didn't clunk into first.

This is the first bike I've had that can develop a clunk in the trunk from too much junk!
