So I rode 1000 miles to Vegas and battery died on me overnight.
Not completely dead but not strong enough to crank. (Progressives included roadside service came to rescue)
Funny thing is it didn’t die the 3 nights after it was jump started the first time.
When autozone tested the battery 2 days ago, cells were good but it said battery needed charging.
You would think 1000 high speed miles should charge a good battery.
Can output of stator be tested with typical volt/amp multi tester?

Sure, just hook up your volt amp meter to the battery, test at rest ( not running), at idle and around 1500-1800 rpm. It will tell you what is going on. At rest should be >12v, at idle + or - 13 and >13 at higher rpm. Check your battery connections. Did you have any high draw items on during your run?

I have small amp and 2 sets of hid, nothing big and no extra lightings.

Check ground connections too.

What Spyder and how old is the battery? A bad battery can show a full charge but still not have enough stored energy to start the bike.

2015 RS and battery is 14 month old.
It’s been sitting outside for last 2-3 month in heat as hot as 110, only getting ridden once a week for 2-80 miles.

You said the battery is 14 months old so I wonder what brand it is and is it the oem battery. There are some battery testers that plug into the cigarette lighter and will give you condition and charging rates. The rectifier can also be a source of low or no charge but that would require testing the stator, rectifier seperately. I would venture to guess it will be the battery....

No battery tender and 2mile rides = toast!

RS is at dynojet for testing and they are putting it on a battery charger so we shall see if it holds that charge after I get it back. Thank you for all the inputs. I just hope it’s not the charging system.
