Hello All

I feel off a latter 21 days ago and heading into surgery Thursday for screws in my left heel bone.

I have 2015 RT SE6...so I do not need the left foot to change gears.

Anyone else had a bad left foot?

How long were you off your Spyder?

Thanks for any input........This sitting in a chair and waiting is miserable!!!

Wishing I was on my Spyder!!

Genradman, I smashed mine and was out of service for 3 months. Had an air boot that help a ton. Good luck on your recovery PT will help a lot.

My left leg is amputated just below the knee and I can't wear a prosthetic leg anymore. I ride almost every day.

Broken tibia and ankle last June... didn't ride the rest of the summer (except the lawn tractor). Winter kept me in the four wheeled cage. Back to riding normally this spring. Manual 2010 RS... ankle working great. Patience with rehab. You'll get there.

Genradman,

Did the ortho dr. mention your weight bearing status after surgery, like weight bearing as tolerated, partial weight bearing, non weight bearing. That would give you a better idea of how long you'll need to be careful when applying pressure to the foot. Will you be leaving the same day as the surgery, or soon thereafter? If you are, a PT will check out your walking, and see what device you may need to assist with walking, if any. I'm just glad I've never broken a bone, and only deal with people who have.

Heal well, heel quickly! The second heel is for heel strike, which is part of a normal gait (walking pattern). I think that may be out for a little bit.

Good luck with the surgery.

I broke my left heel also, but not as badly as you did though. I was in an air cast and rode with it.

Don't look for shortcuts as they generally lead to a much longer and more complicated recovery. As to ryding.... if you can get to your ryde and on it without affecting your foot while on it you would be fine but you would always have the problem of not being able to get off and on.

Crushed my left ankle/foot in airplane crash. Many screws and plates to fuse the parts back together. Bought the spyder because i didnt need my left foot for anything. Works great. I was non weight bearing for 3 months. Then the pt started

Had surgery on my left foot twice in the last 8 months. Each time there was a 4 week period of zero weight on that foot. After that I had a walking boot with limited weight for another month. I was back on the Spyder each time as soon as I got the boot. Didn't tell the doctor I was riding. After all, there is "limited weight" on the foot while riding. BTW, I'm in my 70s and maybe if I were younger the time periods probably would have been shorted. Us old folks are slower..... Jim

I have had both feet worked on over the years. Left foot was just a heal spur removal with only slight damage to the Achilles tendon. I was weight bearing in a boot within one week of surgery. Happened to have a steel toed shoe that fit inside the boot, so I rode for several weeks with that setup (wanted my toes protected). Right big toe implant was redone in February of this year (opted for that over fusion in 2011). I was riding, in my motorcycle boots 13 days post surgery and only two days after the stiches came out. Told the doc, if I can get my motorcycle boots on … we ride on Thursday. They were tight due to some swelling, but rode nearly 200 miles that first day!

Good luck with your recovery … as others have said, PT will help …. Ann
