Headed to Glacier National Park in a week. Anything I should specifically do or see or ride while there besides ride the Going to the Sun road?

Thanks for the input.

If you see another spyder, we will be doing the road to the sun on July 4

AND, if you are heading near Libby Montana afterwards ( depending on direction of travel) you really should take the short hike to Kootenai Falls & Swinging Bridge. It's West of Libby

Last time we were there we did Going to The Sun road from east to west and then stayed in Bigfork. The next day we reversed course and road the Sun road from west to east, looped around SR 89, SR49 and to 2 then back to Bigfork for a second night before moving on. It was a great day ride and you get a different perspective riding the road in a different direction. Make sure you have a camera. Great scenery. Beat the crowds with early morning rides if you can. Have fun..... Jim

Be sure to ride Beartooth Pass and the Chief Joseph Hwy on your way up or back.

We just returned from Yellowstone. Was actually surprised at the number of Spyders and Spyders pulling RT622 or Freedom trailers.

As for Libby Montana, say hi to my stepsister as you pass thru...

Glacier National Park, maybe I should have the wife research that for our next trip in a couple years from now.

Check the weather before you go as it was still snowing there late last week.

We were there a few years ago. While rafting we ran into a lady from North Carolina who asked if we had been to Many Glacier Lake. We said no, and we didn't think we had time as it was on east end of park. She said it was the most beautiful place in the world. Based on this we took the time and went - she was right!

As of now the road is open. Wasn’t last week.

We did the Many Glacier trail and it was great. Almost a cake walk. However, don't walk back to the motel after dinner carrying a doggie bag with half a chicken dinner and get chased by a bear like someone I know.

pay special attention to wildlife on roadway, all roads are narrow, also look for wet patches on road from baby waterfalls.
Grab any turn out you can find for amazing photo ops. Be sure to visit the depot while there. Mostly just stay safe.

On the east side of the park, take the ride up to the Prince of Wales hotel in Waterton NP Alberta. Its not far and a very worthwhile side trip. Beautiful part of this international park.

If you are riding Going to the Sun Road in early morning do watch for bicyclists as they must start early by park regulation.

I agree that after the Going to the Sun road the Many Glacier area is spectacular with several excellent hiking trails if that is an option for you. Many Glacier is one of the best areas in the park to see wildlife, best mostly early morning. Also the drive up to Waterton is well worth it. Two years ago I found a Brown Bear right on the side of the road, just watch out for the free range cattle that frequently graze just off the Chief Mountain road near the border crossing, and don't forget your passport. Finally, if you have the time, the Two Medicine area, near East Glacier Village, also has some great scenery.

Good comment Ann. we just returned from Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park. they just opened Trail Ridge Road a couple of weeks ago and the next day after we went thru they closed the road again as they had lots of snow.. and dress warm as it was really cold at 12,000 feet.........

We did this last time we were up there and really enjoyed it. Rode the Canadian area for a few days. Pulled the passports out last week and realized that our passports expired 6 months ago.

Would recommend taking one of the 1930s buses for going up the going to the Sun highway. if you ride all you will see is the back bumper of the car 5 or 6" in front of you and will have some yahoo on your rear about the same distance.

Based on my trip there 50 years ago, I suggest you do Glacier first and then Waterton. Why? Because IMO Waterton is prettier and by doing it second you'll be amazed by the scenery on both sides!!

Going to do both. My wife already made reservations for the bus. AND I'll take another day to ryde the Going to the Sun ( leaving early to avoid some of us touristas ). ANND---- a third time when we leave for the second half of our summers tour.

We did roughly the same route you are on last year. Beautiful country and Idaho became one of our favorite states to ride in. Lolo is a great ride too. Be safe, have fun, and keep us posted..... Jim

Utah-Geezer, I was there the same time as you. Did you stop at the restaurant/gift shop at the east entrance to the park? I saw a white RT parked there as we drove by.

Actually, it wasn’t as crowded as it had been when I had visited before. There was a mess near Logan where everyone was trying to turn into the full parking lot for the visitors center there, but not too bad other than that. I saw 3 additional Spyders, plus goats, bighorn sheep, and one grizzly.

Decided not to go on Su day. Will get out early ( leave Whitefish at 7 am ) on Monday Saw 1 :spyder2: on Sat. Checked out the local ski resort and an art fair today.
Back on the road (turning on to larger road) I had the opportunity to open the throttle while 2 up. PULLs hard with flashed ECU. Best $$ You'll spend on a :spyder2: proformancewise.

Just got back from the Deadwood Rally and we took the time to go to Glacier and Ride Going to the Sun, both directions! West to East was much nicer! But loved it all! The Swiss Alps got nothing on Montana!174211174211174211
