Dad was there, Omaha beach red sector.....3rd wave. He was 24 years old.

To go through what he did and end up being the kindest, gentlest man I've ever met. Dad and the rest are truly "The greatest generation"

As with all who have served or currently serve...all gave some, some gave all.
Thank you for your service.

That was a monumental task and very costly but did open the way to the end of a world confict.... though I came along couple years later it affected so many and we lost on both sides of the confilict as we had family on both sides. Some may never forgive but no one will ever forget...We will always be greatful to those that brought this war to an end...

Today is a very somber day. The 75th Anniversary of D-Day. Below is some interesting information:

The Allied casualties figures for D-Day have generally been estimated at 10,000, including 2,500 dead. Broken down by nationality, the usual D-Day casualty figures are approximately 2,700 British, 946 Canadians, and 6,603 Americans. The US National D-Day memorial Foundation has recently achieved a more accurate figure, they have so far verified 2,499 American D-Day fatalities and 1,914 from other Allied nations, for a total of 4,413 dead.

American paid a very high price to save Europe, and the world.

How soon we forget - - - -

It is an honor to live in the greatest country in the world. This reminds us of what it takes to be great and stay great. Not that you have to go to war to be great. But that you have to make the hard choices, commit to the goal, and be willing to sacrifice a great deal.

My hat is off to all those who serve and have served.

Never forget! The resolve and courage was incredible! As a Paratrooper, the portion of the invasion led by the Airborne forces leave me in Awe. The Sky was filled with airplanes, each stuffed with paratroopers. Those that did not jump flew gliders! Gliders! Talk about a one way trip! I thank God I’m lucky to be an American, and our country produces patriots like those of the greatest generation! HOOAH!

I have a certificate of Valor for my father in law (who is gone now) for completing 50 combat missions in a B-17 as a belly gunner. RIP SSGT Roland Gilbert
Makes my 4 years in the USAF during Vietnam seem pretty minor. My son was in the USN, as was my brother and 2 brother in laws.

That is an amazing feat, to survive 50 missions as a belly gunner. He must have been an excellent shooter. Belly and tail gunners did not fare well.
