I think the F1 guy makes some - tinted I believe - which would block too much light in my opinion.

Remember - you want people to see those lights during the day!

Smoked light covers are illegal in some states.

Yup. And I honestly don't know if they are legal or not here in MA.

I got mine last summer after I rode to Valcourt and saw the Pioneer Motorsport (http://www.pioneermotorsport.com/photo_gallery.asp)'s project bike:

Speak with Chad Armstong, Pioneer Motorsport, NY, (716)-496-6000 ext.270.

I called them and ordered a set. I was just going for an all-black look (still not there yet with paint scheme), and I figured I'd take the covers off at night, as they are attached by velcro.

(I've ridden thousands of miles with them on, in rain, wind and some snow, and the velcro held, by the way.)

Of course, I always forget to take them off. If I was heading toward you, you wouldn't know there are smoked covers over the headlights unless I were right next to another Spyder. It's just my experience, but I haven't been stopped about them. I do, however, remember to take them off (just in case) when I get the Spyder inspected:
