With an oil thread. Thinking of using Amsoil in Ryker. Severe gear 75w90 in final, severe gear 75w140 in trans., and not sure in motor. Amsoil has a 0w40 and a 10w40 but the book calls for 5w40 These are Synthetic oils from Amsoil. I’m not a dealer, but have used it in many of my motorcycles. :dontknow: cueman

The most important thing is to use oil meeting API service specification(s) listed in the maintenance procedures section(s) of the operator's guide.

I used Mobile-1 Synthetic Gear oil 75W140 in the gearbox of my BMW GS and Mobile-1 75W90 in the final drive. I have some left over so that is what will go into YellaCat but I am sure the Amsol product would be just as good. For engine oil I am going to use this https://www.walmart.com/ip/Chevron-Delo-400-XSP-Synthetic-5W40-Motor-Oil-1-gal/20896087?wpa_bd=&wpa_pg_seller_id=F55CDC31AB754BB68FE0B39041159D63&wpa_ref_id=1902ed073af2cc7a4bf5b9ec211550e5&wpa_aux_info=&wpa_tag=&wpa_pos=3&wpa_plmt=1145x1145_T-C-IG_TI_1-2_HL-INGRID-LIST-NY&wpa_aduid=48a0b87c-3e6c-454c-9039-8e185a216a8b&wpa_pg_id=5W40%20synthetic&wpa_st=5W40synthetic&wpa_tax=91083_1104294_1072084&wpa_bucket=

It is synthetic in the correct weight and although it is primarily a diesel oil it also carries the SL & SM specifications required for the Ryker (as recommended in the owners manual).

Amsoil MFC 10w-40 will undoubtedly work as well in the Ryker engine as it does in all of the other Spyder/Rotax engines. And I will eventually change out to the other Amsoil lubricants as you mention in your post.

It is interesting that the Gear Box calls for 5w-40, 10w-50 motor oil or 75w-140 gear oil. This is quite a spread. Not sure which way I'll go on this. But I will probably lean towards the heavier options. I'd rather get better gear life than slightly better fuel mileage.

My experience with oils is... as long as it meets the mfg's specs all is good. I think it is more important that the oil be changed within the correct mileage range. Especially with the BRP off road products I have seen guys who haven't changed their oil regularly end up eating timing chains and guides. With the BRP Spyders with the semi-automatics (which use the oil to shift it) the engine/transmission is especially sensitive.

For me on the Ryker the 3000 miles service will BRP oil. Then I will look in to Amsoil.

I believe that will be a very good choice! cueman

So, unlike our RT, the Ryker has a separate gear box? I figured this must be the case after seeing posts about a Ryker recall based on no oil in the gearbox....So how what goes in the crankcase? just curious.

yes, it is separate. In fact, it is the warranty bulletin item mentioned elsewhere in the Ryker section. It runs in 75/90 or 75/140 gear oil, which is very different than the engine oil

So the Ryker Does NOT require a Jaso OR Jaso MA2 rating? If this is correct there are tons of Great Synthetics at Good prices.
