I have worked since I was 15 years old and Last week I turned in my 2 week notice. For the last 25 years as a traveling construction superintendent I have been to every state except 2 and have worked in 38 of them. Some times I have stayed on a site for a year sometimes only weeks but have had a chance to explore this great country of ours . Now I'm looking forward to returning to some of my favorite places and touring them on our Spyders. Our first big ride this spring will be Hwy. 20 coast to coast. I have done about half of it but this time we will start in Newport Or and end in Boston, My love of adventure started by listening to my Dads stories of his adventure on his Harley traveling to all the lower 48 in 1937-38. My lovely bride for the last 44 years loves riding and touring as much as I do. We have made some great rydes on our spyders , but it always seemed to be short of time and could never just stop and spend several days or a week in a spot. but that is going to change. At 68 I have realized it's time to really stop and smell the roses. When I turned in my notice it was really hard to turn down a 6 figure salary but I had thought long and hard about this and after my mentor had passed away last month at 92 he always chided me for telling him maybe I'll do it next year. So I guess my wife and I will go make a bunch on new memories. I may even try writing a travel blog.

Enjoy your new adventures. As you get acclimated to the new lifestyle, I hope you find what I did. That is, not enough time to even think about work. Just too darn much to do and life to live. Congrats and enjoy....... Jim

Enjoy your new job - retirement. I turn 62 in July 2021 and I am calling it quits then. My employer will pay my health insurance until 65. I think a lot about how to make the numbers work but I’ll figure it out.

Good on yer! You will find that you won't have time to go to work and you'll wonder how you ever did!

Stop in PA on your way to Boston and we'll share a wee dram.

Congrats :2thumbs:

I made that decision over a year ago - best thing I have ever did involving work!

It's great waking up in the morning thinking what do I want to do today, instead of what do I have to do :ohyea:

Give us a shout if you get to Sin City! I love what we do, so I don’t consider it work. We get to ride, meet cool Spyder people, turn wrenches, make people happy, and get paid to do it! Doubtful I’ll ever “retire”, but after a career as an Army officer, a career in heavy industry, I think I like this career best! Enjoy what you are doing, and do it to your hearts content! Congratulations! You deserve it! Joe

I'm sorry to hear that. I thought I was too, but fortunately circumstances changed for the better. I hope they do for you, too.

Congratulations on the retirement. If you are up for it, take HWY 50 back coast to coast. From DC to California. Or there is also HWY 6. Enjoy the trip!

Hwy 20, coupled with US 26 and 95, is about 200 yards from my front door here in Parma! Let me know when you're going to be here and let's ride, brunch, or lunch together for a bit!

If you click the picture, it says Newport to Boston.

I, like you spent 40 years traveling for construction, but never really exploring the many wonders our country has to offer. Been retired 4 years and have been seeing the sights on my Spyder. Enjoy.

Where is that sign?

The sign is on the corner of Hwy 20 and 101 in Newport Oregon. I here that the opposite is in Boston outside of Fen-way Park. I'll post a photo when we get there!

that is an absolute awesome journey you have planned. when will you have dates and times in more detail? Just wondering as our NISR (Nebraska Iowa Spyder Ryders) group might meet up with you and buy you lunch somewhere along your Hwy 20 route???????
