I do all my own work on my 2011 RTS and just got tired of removing the Frunk to remove the stock air cleaner. I just installed JT's air filter and removed the original and the resonator. What a difference! My butt dynamo says I have more pep and the engine is much easier to access. If you have an RT, you may want to consider doing this.

You will love the easy access you have now to do your own maintenance - especially the front spark plug and cooling system plumbing. Plus the under body temps will run so much cooler.

How is the sound level? I bought the filter for my dad's spyder, but haven't installed it yet.

The sound goes up when the throttle is opened up. When cruising at a steady speed it is just a little louder than normal. I don't like load bikes, but I can live with this. JT offers a foam pre-filter to reduce the noise if it becomes an issue. OP

I had the same concerns and delayed a long time in getting the filter. It was more noticeable at first but after running it for awhile I found that it was not objectionable and at cruising speed it was not noticeable at all. I also put the muffler on mine that JT sells. I also noticed that it would roar for a bit if I punched it but if I would back off a little it was ok.

G'day guys

Where did you get the JT's Air Filter from?

Could not see him advertised on here. Thanks
Frank

I put one on the wife's RT last winter. Love how it makes getting in to change plugs and wires and anything else so much easier. And when you change out the airfilter, at most a 5 min job.

I use the prefilter as well and really couldn't tell that the sound was louder. And that is without a helmet as well.

Looks good, however I do not like the comment he has on his description:

"Warning when you remove the air box to install any aftermarket air filter do not allow the RT to sit uncovered in the rain. If this happens remove the spark plugs before turning the engine over in case any water has gotten into the cylinders."

Also does the rain cover restrict the air flow?

Just asking all the questions before I decide to purchase as shipping to Australia can be pricey.

I have had the ECU reflashed by Jas at Extreme ECU here on the Gold Coast. Will be putting the cat delete pipe (getting it ceramic coated) back on with stock muffler.

Cheers and beers

Frank

Hey Frank. I've had the air filter on mine since 2013. Been rained on a lot. Never had an issue. That comment in his description is new to me as well as that rain guard product. On the RT, I think it would be pretty implausible for rain to get into the intake. But, if you want the straight skinny, send JT a message directly and he could tell you what the basis is behind that comment and why the new rain guard product was created. Then you can decide if you really need it.

Do a search on here. There have been a few cases of people getting water into the cylinders after a heavy rainstorm. That's why he added the rain guard. He wouldn't have done it, if there wasn't a reason for it.

On the 2010 - 2012 RT, there's an extremely tight clearance between the rear of the air filter and the frame. You can see that in the difference between Pre-Filter 1 and Pre-Filter 2. Based on the pictures, I don't see that the Rain Guard would be a fit for those model year RTs.

Is there a install video available?

I didn't find one. The most difficult procedure is getting the old air cleaner and resonator out.
