Doing the 56,000 mile service on the 2014 RTL SE6. the sound foam over the air box has turned into a sticky deteriorated mess. had to remove all of. afraid it would drop in the plug holes. Replaced with a mylar reflective material.

That doesn't look it was caused from HEAT ….. gasoline maybe …. I have over 40,000 miles and mine doesn't look like that ….. in fact it appears normal …… Mike

A few weeks ago, while working on the 14 RTS, I had the left and right accoustic panels removed.

The foam soundproofing on both had deteriorated. Almost goo, but not quite. If you touched it with a fingertip, there was no foam action to spring back.

Like you, I did not want it falling down onto hot components or the exhaust, so I removed it.

I was able to fabricate a paper template, and using a product we use on aircraft, installed a new material. The new stuff has about a 1/16 rubber sheet, bonded over the foam. Like original, the foam side is self adhesive.

So far it is working well, and has even reduced the heat on the left and right side bodywork.
