A follow up...

A few weeks ago I wrote a post asking what would make my
drive belt wander all over the rear sprocket. I got several opinions,
one even suggesting swingarm bearings. (Thanks Gene). All good
ideas. So I have the RT in the shop getting the new belt, and new rear tire.
I told them to check the bearings, front sprocket and anything else that would
cause this meandering belt. After a while here comes the service manager
carrying the rear sprocket. The teeth were worn almost to a point! And the belt
wasn't much better. But they didn't have a sprocket in stock, had to order.

So I get a ride home and check Cheap Cycle parts trying to save a few $$.
Cheap Cycle Parts isn't so cheap. The belt cost $309.99. The dealer's price
was $309.99. Cheap's price for the sprocket was $324.99. Dealers price
was $324.99. Cheap Cycle Parts sells OEM parts, not aftermarket.
It's a 4 day wait for the dealer to get a new one in so I wait. 5 days later
I get a call, your part is here but it's silver, not black like my old one was.
I don't care, I want to ryde!
The silver sprocket looks pretty nice but best of all the new belt stays
right where it should. It has 400 miles on it now and is fine.
I don't think you all should rush right out and check your rear sprockets,
mine has 160,000 miles on it.

I would agree and say probably. However, the drive pulley is steel, the rear one a softer metal alloy, so the drive pulley most likely is OK.

With over $600 in the belt and rear sprocket I wanted to be sure
the front drive was still in tune. I checked it out and agreed with
the service manager it would last. Another 160,000, well, we'll see.

Chuck, I am sure glad to hear you are out there riding. With all the health issues that I had I am doing better and fell good and riding as much as I can. I did make Sturgis this year but the weather has cut some of my riding down. Jerry

Cheap Cycle Parts isn’t always cheap but they often have things in stock that are back ordered by BRP. I buy from my dealer when I can but if I need it now I order online.

At the rate i am going it would take me more than 16 years to match your mileage . Come to think of it i am in KM so it will take a lot longer .LOL

hahhahaha , think you might want too go around the block every time you click on a thread here on spyder lovers :roflblack: ( the cycle I just sold only had 5,ooo more miles on her from the mileage at the start of ownership ! so yeah , keep them in great shape and low miles ! :joke: and I rode the cycle quite often , just do not have far to travel to get to where I needed to go :thumbup: )

I had a mishap May 30th. Since then I've only ridden 1700 miles. Some of that
was because I lost confidence. But most was because of the condition of my '14 RT-S.
Back then I asked my dealer what was going on with my belt. He showed me a rear
sprocket from an RT that had cracks around the bearing. He said those cracks can
break and cause the gear to collapse.
But now I have all new parts, been ryding more and getting back into it.
MY health issues keep me from doing much out of state ryding. But I did ryde to
Spyderfest in May. Living here in southeast Ohio there are some very nice roads.
I ryde the same roads almost daily.
My plan was to get as close to 200,000 miles as I could. And I had a good start, rode
5,670 miles in May. But I still need over 39,000. Maybe next year. If I can swing my
leg over the seat I'm good to go. There are many handicapped ryders still doing what
they love, many worse off than me.
