2010 RS with 20,800 miles. August 2016 get dps fault while in South Dakota but make it the 400 miles back home ok no limp mode. $2300 and back in business. May 2018 40 miles from home abs, vss and ebd faults appear and limp home mode. Picked up the bike last Wednesday after laying down $ 2700. Turns out the VCM went bad/ Got out today about 10 miles from home and limp mode again with vss and dps codes on the screen. pulled up the codes and they are C0051 and P2545. Well back to the dealer 100 miles from here. Just needed to vent

Battery has been replaced and load checked right? Seems many multiple error code situations resolved after battery replacement?

They stuck it to you on the DPS replacement. When mine went out I bought one from Amazon for 1200 and installed it myself, then a trip to the dealer to get the steering parameters set and 42.00 later was back in business. I've read numerous post where most paid around 1800 for dealer repair.

Though I would be suspect of this dealer. Many codes are caused by other codes but do not mean the part is bad. VSS can cause DPS code and ECM codes as has been my experience. Some hair brained manuver I made set them off and the engine light. There are those techs that simply replace the part cause there was a code saying it was bad. Always get an estimate and at those prices get a second opinion. :gaah:

update. Dealer delivered the bike last Friday. Put 100 miles on it Saturday with no problems. I was told some problem with the computer programming not taking hold and that the older BUDS setups could be a little buggy at times. Anyway no charge and the spyder seems ok, hope I make it Sturgis next week

I am hoping that the dealer did not find a "live one." Way to much stuff going on and I am also guessing cascading computer problems--not necessarily bad parts.

Sturgis is ramping up, already getting to be quite a few bikes around here. More three wheelers too, might have something to do with riders getting older...

Having serviced and repaired assorted motorcycles for more than forty years, added complexity and computer diagnostics becomes really expensive for the consumer. Considering all the technology how come technicians are still swapping out parts instead of actually solving the problem?
Did you get those faulty parts back? It’s quite possible those parts are ok and ready for another possible swap out? Very often just the act of removing them or disturbing the connections is sufficient to solve the problem. If the connections are dodgy in a connector or have any vert de gris, cleaning them with a ear bud soaked in CLR is enough to remove that issue.
