My wife really gets hot while driving 2014 RT Spyder. My question is there any modification to increase airflow on the driver. I really don't want to remove the windshield unless that is something that is easy to do.

I’m considering Baker air wings. I agree that it does get toasty behind the windshield.!!

You can start by adding a vent to the windshield. Like this one; https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GUJAUUU/?coliid=I2YVCRBMK7VLTT&colid=2PB8597VJNH9Y&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

Some folks have had their windshield shortened, or they buy a shorter one.

I removed the two side shields that are just under the mirrors. It allows for more air flow to me and into the vents going into the engine area. I also have a shorter windshield.

How hard was that vent to install?

I have not installed one, but there are plenty of folks here that have.

Baker Air Wings plus the BRP adjustable deflectors plus the windshield vent are about as much as you can do. If you have an after market wide windshield go back to factory wide. I have the F4 wide and tall and it does cut back on air flow on me. The three items above help a lot but I've considered having my windshield cut back to OEM width.

I have never had a heat issue, but I added the 2013 scoops, couldn't tell any difference, but it had to make it better, I also have the vented windshield and baker wings.

Baker Air Wings with the BRP adjustable wind deflectors is a definite must have. Is your wife riding with the windshield all the way up? If so have her try it in a lower position, ideally with the top of the windshield even with her nose.

I had them installed and they are well worth the cost. Use for cooling in hot weather, help keep warm in cool weather and help keep dry in light rain.

The windshield vent does a lot more to reduce buffeting; than it does to increase airflow...
But it's still going to help!

I have a 2014 RTS and have added the BRP air scoops. These are the ones under the mirror. It has taken away all the heat from the glove box and the foot area. They are black in color don't look bad. Hope this helps.:yes:

:agree: These are available on ebay for $140.00, so about $40 less than what the dealer wants for them. Take out the two screws on the factory deflector and install the new one with the same two screws. You will not believe the difference in the amount of air you can direct onto the rider and passenger.

Get your lovely partner a cooling vest. Mine works very well. I have the kind I fill with about 16/20 oz. of water, however I don't get wet. It will last 2/4 hours depending. Love it, love it, love it! I got it from Silver Eagle Outfitters.

Those are great in dry climates but don’t work so well in humid places like TN.

Come to south Texas, nothing helps....my buddy wears a cooling jacket with frozen pouches and he likes it. I may get one too.

That's the conclusion I have drawn from the many discussions on this topic.

It seems that in humid climates the best way to cool the body is to increase the air flow over the skin, so the suggestions about getting a shorter windshield, adding Baker Air Wings or the BRP adjustable deflectors are all good. Of course, well-ventilated riding gear is essential, also.

I'm sure you would know. I've never been east of the Mississippi on a bike. Thanks

Sorry, I can't figure out how to reply to a post without my original post. To answer your question about where the windshield is positioned it is just barely raised from the bottom. so where on this blog it was stated if the windshield is all the way down it had a tendency to break the mounting bracket.

Just go to the post you want to reply to and hit the button on lower right that says 'reply with a quote'

The windshield is designed to operate at the full range of motion without breakage. That happens with oversized windshields at the high position in extremely gusty or bumpy road conditions and is RARE I believe. I've never had a problem with either of my RTs, including my wife's which has an oversized F4 windshield.

BTW, windshields themselves are very easy to remove and install, so you may just want to get a shorty windshield for the really hot conditions you're experiencing and keep the OEM as a spare or for touring.

I just put the 2013 air flow vents to my 2014. This definitely reduced the heat of the seat. I did have the BRP adjustable air deflectors under the mirrors and I thought they just deflected the warm air coming out of the vents onto me. I also have shortened the windshield. I'm not a fan of Baker Air Wings but that might be the next step.

I'm planning to put one of the GoldWing style vents on my 2017 RT.
I see there are vents listed for the GW1200, 1500 and 1800.
I'm assuming there might be a difference in the curvature of the windshields.
Does anyone know which one the three vents works best on the RT?

Thanks

Get your lovely partner a cooling vest.

Back to basics.
What kind of GEAR does she wear ?
Having well vented gear in the summer is likely more important than air flow onto the rider.

P.S. I personally think that removing the little deflector wings ABOVE the mirrors might make a LARGE improvement in air flow......but it appears that getting TO them to remove might not be easy.......and getting them back on for the "winter" would be a problem too.

Bob... how long have you had them... and do they really help? I owned GoldWings for ages and always had Baker Wind Wings but I dont like how they fit on the Can Ams... Did you find them at a reasonable price anywhere?

I have used the Baker Airwings for four years. They will increase the air flow but it will be primarily directed at your legs. I find the biggest plus is in cooler weather when I can keep the cold air OFF my body and stay warm behind my larger F4 windshield.

Im a big fan of these now that I have had them on for a while ..! Yes, they primarily get air to your legs but that helps considerably when it’s hovering around triple digits ..! And they are very well made ..! 👍
