Pic of my Flight is not posted. Started BMT on 11 Jul 1984 and graduated in August

34 years later I still remember...

Military Training Instructors: Team Leader - SSgt Young, Team Member - SrA Burchett

Squadron motto: It's not where you have been that counts, it's where your going
DOT 1 Instructions: Get of my F*u@k'n Bus!!! Stand on still!!! Quit Moving!!! :gaah: Pick-em up, Put-em Down!!! Don't eyeball me!!! (frequently followed by a :banghead: with the campaign hat)

BMT traumatized me so much I was afraid to get out :helpsmilie:, but finally did after 22 years, 4 months and 25 days:yes:

You'll never find my Basic picture. I spent 4 years on active duty and 19 in the reserves and never attended Basic or OTS. I was a direct appointee JAG and I just got orders to report to Altus AFB, Oklahoma, April 19, 1984. I showed up at the gate in civvies with long hair and showed the guard my orders. They sent me to the Staff Judge Advocate (SJA) office where I was assigned. The SJA just told me to cut my hair (3 times in 2 days until he was satisfied) and had my mentor, a Captain, take me to Clothing Sales to buy uniforms. He told me that as a newly-minted 1st Lt, usually most of the time people would salute me first and all I had to do was return it -- but if they didn't salute me, then I'd sure better salute them! Six weeks later they sent me to "Officer Orientation Course," which we referred to as the "marching lawyers." The enlisted folks who were training us had a different name for us, I'm sure. That was followed by the JAG Basic Course, which was just military law school. I never shot a gun until I became friends with the Security Police commander back at Altus and asked to shoot -- I shot expert at the range there with a .38 to get my first ribbon!!! Even with 9 years in the Army Guard, I've never shot a military rifle, never ran an obstacle course, never did almost anything that "real" military do in training. Sent a lot of guys to Leavenworth, though ...

You mean that little slip of paper that you kept folded in your chest pocket with the tab sticking out just below the flap?? Those were the days and I would live them over again, just to be young, healthy and in shape like that again!! Mac:2thumbs:

I was there in July of 62 to August of 62. It was not the most fun I've ever had:D.

John, I bet I was one of those guys waving you through the Gate! I was stationed at Altus 3 times between 85 and 2K(when I retired).

Probably so! I was there until 1986. I became the Area Defense Counsel in 1985. Maybe you remember the rape court-martial back then? That was mine - got an acquittal in 45 minutes. There was an SP investigator who was a friend of mine - Don McCool. And then there was my favorite SP investigator -- Charlotte Grimm. You probably knew her. I just had to keep interviewing her over and over ... but she was enlisted, I was officer and I was scared to death of fraternization rules. No matter, my boss got me assigned to Clark Air Base and I met my love there.
