View Full Version : Advice on ST (Update). I won’t go back to 2 wheels.

So, I wanted to thank everyone for the great advise and helpful comments. Here is my update.

I got up early and braved 39 degree temperatures for 2 hours to get to the dealership where I had looked at the ST. I rode the machine for an hour and the bike was as smooth and clean as I could have hoped for. I then rode an RT Limited for an hour for comparison. While I absolute loved the RT, my pocket was not deep enough. I loved everything about the ST. The dealership also went out of their way to make sure I went home on it. I had them run the VIN and found that every recall (even the optional ones) had been done. I got new tires out of the deal and they even agreed to do the valve check at 14,000 miles. They even told me that an older gentleman had bought the Spyder new and wanted to ride with his wife. His wife would not ride with him. He brought it back to the dealership and traded for a boat.

After making a full day of it, I came home on the New to me 2013 ST. I decided to take the long way home and avoid the interstate since I was new to the Spyder ride and handling. After 2 1/2 hour ride home, I don’t think I will ever go back to two wheels. It is the most fun I have ever had on two or three wheels. I am thrilled with my new purchase.

Thanks for the help. Christening to follow.

Congratulations on the good looking ST. I have a 2014 ST. Love it. Are you aware that you can get the 2014 air vents installed on your 2013, at no cost to you. BRP pays total parts and labor. That will make the engine compartment cooler and also make the spyder look one year newer. Search on this site, and learn all about it. Your dealer probably does not know about it (they can not know everything). Educate your dealer, get the air vents. You will thank me, come summer.
Ride safe,
Roger

I spoke with the dealership about this. They put the VIN in the system and it was not even a voluntary option for my bike and VIN. I tried. I may try my local dealer and see what they say.

Congrats.

Yes, get the airflow panel kits. It won't come up on a vin search as it is a Goodwill Fix, not a recall. Absolutely essential ... more to stop components from melting (eg stator) than anything else...

I'm pretty sure you literally have to complain about the heat in order to get the panels.

Read the old posts about this on this site. Almost everyone has had to educate their dealer. You tell your dealer that the heat is burning your legs. Your dealer tells BRP. BRP will send your dealer the parts, in the correct color, no charge, and pay them to install them. BRP does this as a good will gesture. It costs you nothing. Do not take no for an answer.
Ride safe,
Roger

Glad to hear that you were able to compare the ST and the RT. Looks like you got a good deal with a dealer that seemed to care that you were satisfied. I have yet to request the 2014 side panels for my ST. Be sure that the dealer registered your ST with BRP so you will get any recall update info.

Enjoy!

Our local stealership in Georgetown, TX had not heard of the issue. I pointed out a couple in service had the update and threatened to go to another shop. I copied the owner on a email and 3 days later the stealership offer to do the panel update for $100. We paid 1.5 hr labor for 15 minutes work, but it was well worth it.

Do your research and print everything out to present to the deal...a lot of dealer do have to be educated and informed about this...also let him know your right foot and passenger are getting way hot.

This is what I deal and dealer didn't know anything about this and my vin did not say it needed the update but when I informed the dealer and showed him print outs he knew what to tell BRP and I was all set.
