In this case, IMO I think it's way overdue. But I do understand fans not liking change. Baseball fans are very traditional so it can be difficult for teams to change their names, colors, and uniforms without someone getting offended. I remember in the 70's the Atalanta Braves changed their uniforms and fans where irate. So the went back to the original outdated, but loved design.

I still think this is one of the best designs for a uniform.

I understand the change of the logo, I don't agree with it however. It's really a difficult issue when you come right down to it, I do think that the market should drive these changes and I don't think this is the case here. The team is bowing to external pressure in this change. It's a sad day for me since I am a season ticket holder and have loved the team since I was old enough to walk. Nothing will change for me Chris.

This is NOT surprising. I recently heard that the Washington Redskins will be changing their team name.

It turns out that the Native Americans resent being linked to Washington! :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

isn't it offensive to the 10's of thousands of fans to have the name changed, it makes them feel like they were
racists?

I am sure as a long time Indians fan you would not like this. I am a White Sox fan. The Sox have a tendency to change their uniforms often and people don't mind. I guess its all about the local culture. BTW, I love the current design, particularly the black jerseys. They use it in their promos, the "Men in Black".

Now, can you imagine if the Yankees changed their name, logo or uniforms? There would be an outright riot in the streets.

I had a Great-Grandma Rose that was born in Virginia. She NEVER said the word "Yankee", without preceding it with "Damn"! nojoke

In the South, Damn Yankee is one word. Damnyankee.

I know you meant that as a joke but it isn't true. The Redskins continue fighting political correctness to retain their name.

BTW, like many others on this forum I am a native American (born here) and deeply resent being associated with WashDC in every respect.

The last couple of years I have attended Longmire Days in Buffalo, WY. They put on a softball game that is Coybows vs Indians and NOBODY has a problem with that!
I cheer for the Indians and last year it was close 21-19 with the Cowboys winning. :banghead:

Both Mel Brooks and Archie Bunker went a long way on pushing the envelope on many "forbidden" things. They got away with it. Like Bob said, less likely to happen today. To much PC gets in the way.

We need to stop caving to political correctness.

Get a life and GET OVER IT......

I'm not a sports person, but they have had this name and mascot longer than most of us have been alive. GET OVER IT.....

It's a cool logo btw.

A couple of months ago I watch a British film called “The Dam Busters” made in 1955. One of the main pilots had a black retriever. The name of the dog was the slag version of the N word. I had to hear it several times to make sure that’s what they were calling him?
I thought there’s NO way they could make that movie today!

Bob Denman
02-01-2018, 06:07 PM
I remember that movie...

I also know that Mark Twain used a very "uncomplimentary" term in his books...
At the time: nobody made a big deal out of it.
If they didn't like : they put the book down, and read something else.
