I have a 2015 Can Am Spyder that I purchased used. It had only one key with it. Is the only place to get a key made is at a dealer? I got a price of 80.00 dollars from a dealer. Can anyone else program a key if I get a blank for it? That seems pretty high but I do all my own service work and I know dealers do not like that.

Go to the search box and type in program key by finless. He made several films on that subject. You may also try on YouTube. You do not have to have the dealer program it.

Unfortunately they are the only ones at the moment. The aftermarket guy will get there but who knows when..? You can cut keys to lock and unlock but not start and run.:banghead: from 14 on they changed the chip. Prior model you can clone...

Eighty bucks is a GREAT price. I bought a key on line and paid the dealer to program it and it was $120.00 total. The initial spare I bought when I bought the bike was $140.00 with programming with a 20% discount. Now I have a key, there is a spare in a secure place on the bike and my wife has another key just in case. That's since I lost a key on a ride, my wife left her key at home, and if a passer-by hadn't found my key we would have needed to be towed home.

Yes you do. 2014 on you have to have someone who has BUDS program the key into the DESS. 2013 & earlier if you had a 'master key' you could program it yourself.

To the OP, you have to buy the blank from the dealer. Make sure it's for 2014 and later. You can have it cut anywhere. Then back to the dealer to have it programmed into the DESS. Contrary to keys 2013 & earlier the newer key itself is not programmed. It's ID is entered into DESS using BUDS.

List price for the blank key is around $55. Add to that the price to have it cut and the dealer to program it into the DESS. Some dealers will program it in at no or little cost.

I paid $79, which included tax, for the key. I'll go to my local ACE to get it cut (hope they can do it). Then, back to the dealer for $30 programming (service) charge.

I went through the same thing and it cost about $100. $50 for the key, and another $50 to program it.

Key blank from dealer was 80 bucks. Local ACE hardware cut it for free (nice folks). Then back to dealer who programed it for free (probably felt guilty for charging 80 bucks for a blank key). Total cost, 80 bucks plus travel time.
