I have had the pleasure of meeting and visiting with him a few times
and I always come away impressed, go to the Peterson auto museum
there you will find his motorcycle designed by him and other cool stuff
do you remember the Gurney Eagle, if not google it

Myself & two other GI's were on a 9-day tour of western Europe in the summer of 1963. We were travelling in a '54 Buick convertible. We decided to go to the '63 French Grand Prix. We got there on Saturday to watch the practices runs. As we were leaving the town later that day, me sitting in the back seat, I heard some noise behind us. It was Dan Gurney in his F-1 car going to the garage they used. He passed us like we were standing still. I will never forget that moment.

He was one of the great ones; versatile in all forms of racing.
