Warms the heart to see them get some help. Great idea and looks to work quite well....

Perhaps giving them an opportunity might be better then just a handout.
did anyone else notice a sign that said, cold, pregnant....

I think that this idea has some merit... but I'm not necessarily in favor of just giving handouts... :dontknow:

What's that old saying?
"Give a man a fish, and you've fed him for a day..."

"Teach a man to fish, and he'll be gone all weekend with his buddies: drinking beer!"

Reality check?? In most cases, the items will be sold for pennies on the dollar in order to get the next bottle, fix, or smokes.

Most are in their positions because that is how they choose to live. The homeless camps here are full of garbage (empty liquor bottles, syringes) as well as other mounds of trash. They always have money for the "necessities" above. Here, they hang around the "freebie" places for food and sometimes overnight sleeping accommodations. Police are called to these places many times a day to break up fights or haul a client or two to a detox place. The lookers make faces for the cameras while passing the brown bag, smoking "spice" etc. Its a sad but true "game" for most of the people.

I was sympathetic at one time--but not so much anymore. :sour:

On this subject--yes. Quotes from Ebenezer were running through my head when I posted it. But tried to keep it mellow. :roflblack::roflblack:

Years ago I had a huge multi year contract in downtown San Diego. We have our fair share of homeless. The first few months on the job during breaks I would give a buck here a fiver there. Never heard a thanks but didn't care. I got tired of always caring money so I bought McDonald's gift cards for free kids meals. More than 50% looked at it and crumpled it up like trash. Again, no thanks.

Taking the misses to the gas lamp restaurants, the same homeless people would hoot and holler at here like construction workers. Disrespect me all you want but not my lady.

If your down and out I'll help where I can but the first time I feel taken advantage of for my generosity then you can F off and starve for all I care. Think or call me what you will but that's me.

is this a good idea? Not on your best thought. Prove to me you deserve it. I work my arse off and so should you whether it is medication you need to be a productive part of society or your helping hand to others.

my yard is dirty, i will give you a broom, garbage can & $10 to clean up. if they really need money then find
other businesses like me that will give a few $$$ to clean up.
