JFK was assassinated 53 years ago. I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I heard the news

Was on the bus headed home from business college. Someone had a transistor radio and announced that the President had been shot.
I was glued to the TV set for the next couple days.

I can handle the arithmetic Jerry, but why the 2 threads with the same text & the disparity between title reading 54 years ago on this thread but the text content above? :dontknow:

Or did he get stolen by aliens like our Prime Minister Harold Holt?? Or was that a Soviet sub....

It did happen in 1963. That is what I am remembering. I don't think there was much in the news about it this time. :dontknow:

Hi Peter,

Re: why the 2 threads with the same text & the disparity between title reading 54 years ago on this thread but the text content above?

I don't know. I did not post either of them.

Was in boarding school in central Florida. We were let out of class to huddle by the TV and watch the reports.....

I was in the 6th grade in a small Texas town just north of Ft. Worth. I remember the Principal coming on the 'speaker' and making the announcement. Total silence. Complete shock.

A classmate of mine had left for D.C. two years earlier. Her name was Gail and her father was the Chief Of Police until ~two years before when he accepted a job to become a Secret Service Agent, hence the move to D.C.

Gail and her mother accompanied her dad to Dallas since he was on the JFK detail. Gail met Ms. Kennedy at Love Field and Ms. Kennedy gave Gail one of the red roses Ms. Kennedy was given upon arrival at Love.

Some time after the assassination, Gail's father, Mike, was assigned to LBJ once LBJ retired. They all lived near Johnson's ranch near Austin.

I'll never forget the day Kennedy came to Dallas.

A story on 'Mike.'
