I sure hope this one is right. Atleast I know now to bring warm gear. High 30's in the morning will make for some cool riding. It also helps me to make a decision on which windshield to keep on the bike.

Those who come prepared (with layers) will be ready for almost anything. Plan on having good weather, but be prepared for what Mother Nature can send your way. If you ready for it--you may not have to use it--as in Murphy's Law.:yes:

We were there 2 weeks ago when we did the BRP from Cherokee to Skyline drive in Virginia. Due to it being in the 80's in the afternoon, I wore my mesh jacket. Needless to say, I had to make a stop by KMart and pick up a sweat shirt for those upper 50 degree mornings at the higher elevations. I could have made it fine, but why suffer. Lesson learned.
I will have my tritex jacket with liner, freezeout gear, and rain suit. That should have me prepared for anything above 35 degrees. I also need to remember that the F3T (even with my taller shield) does not protect like my RT. Either way, I will be ready and just happy to be there. Plus, there is always a Walmart and KMart in Waynesville and good old dependable Dollar General for those last minute needs.

Totally agree. Riding cold or wet is an endurance ride. Layering up is a good thing. Very thankful for the Walmart/KMart solution if I forget or need something extra.

Just take plenty of layers and go for it. My ride to Red Rock was kind of interesting. Left central Washington in 44º weather and seems the further South I went the colder it got. First nights stop was in Nampa, ID and it rained most of night and lightly most of next day in high 40º weather till Ogden, UT where it began to pour down and temp dropped about 10 degrees. Rode through Salt Lake City in a real gully washer and to 60 miles South of there for 2nd stop in Payson, UT. Raining next morning and visibility about 150 yards then about half way to St. George ran in to rain and snow mix temp down to 34º. Pulled off at a Carl's Jr. to warm up and get some hot coffee in me. Had some early lunch and killed about an hour and weather cleared a little. Like Mike said wait and hour and it will all change. Ride was still worth it.

Well, it looks like the temps will be a little warmer than forecast earlier, and we might be able to avoid most of of the rain. Either way, I am heading over Wednesday and planning on a wonderful time:yes:.

That hurricane just came through so I expect another day and the forecast will change. Can't be any worse than last year, which wasn't too bad. If anything looks like it will be a little warmer.

And since I made the reservation for cabin #2, I hope the folks that I am escorting down there keep a pace that will allow me to experience the finer cuisines that Master Mike has prepared.

Every trip I've taken this year has involved rain... torrential rain. Hoping Maggie Valley will be different.

I have up on layers to keep warm and finally got heated gear. It is absolutely wonderful. You don't have to layer up and feel all bulky and sweaty due to not breathing. I use the jacket and pants liners under my normal riding gear, also got the glove and sock liners but don't use them much.

Heading out tomorrow morning for a 650 mile day to get there... and it's supposed to be raining in the morning when I leave..... perfect....:banghead:
