I know we don't need any reason to just go and enjoy the ryde, but when I'm out there I tend to notice road/street signs. Perhaps there are interesting road/street signs where you ryde.

There are a couple of states where they think it is necessary to put "No Left Turn" signs at the end of freeway on-ramps. :shocked:

Really ?? Who exactly do they think needs to be told that ?? :dontknow:

That reminds me of the fella driving home from work on a miserable night, dark & stormy, & he could hardly see where he was going...

Then his wife rang on the cell to tell him to be careful, she'd just heard on the news that there was an idiot driving the wrong way down the freeway he generally travelled on to get home!!

His reply... "It's not just ONE freakin idiot, there are HUNDREDS of them!!" :shocked:

I would like to add a couple more. From my neighborhood, we have

Helluva St. and Jehovh Jireh St.

My favorite from Ft. Wayne. Ind.-- Harry Balls Dr.-- right next to Johnny Appleseed's Park and Gravesite. It does not mean what you think it says--Harry Balls was an early Mayor of Ft. Wayne. First time I heard it, I about swallowed my tongue. :roflblack::roflblack:

I can't post any pics of the signs, but apart from some weird sounding Aboriginal names, we've also got some pretty odd 'English' town names.... like:

Hell Hole Hate (not much to like there!);
Numbugga (bleedin cold almost all the time!);
Wantabuggery (not touching that one! :shocked:);
Gotabuggery (pronounced Go-ta-... you get the drift! :rolleyes:);
Dick's Knob (see the comment 2 up!);
Yorky's Knob (ditto)
Black Stump (there was one... once!); &
Beyond Black Stump... (it's a fair way beyond! :rolleyes:)

And then there's Five Bob Road (it cost just 5 Bob to make - about 50 cents - and they over-charged!!); Halfpenny Road (I assume a similar 'construction cost naming protocol', it was as bloody awful road!!); Broken Cart Track; & Broken Back Track (those last 2 did both!!) :shocked:

Aren't we an inventive species when we set our minds to it?! :thumbup:

"Yield" at a railroad crossing?
No fooling-does someone really need to be told that?

"Yield" at a railroad crossing?
No fooling-does someone really need to be told that?

I suspect that the State Law says; Thou shalt STOP at all railroad crossings where there are not control arms.
And those crossings may actually have a STOP sign.

And the "yield" places are low traffic spurs where a STOP is not usually necessary.

What should the sign say.......Do Not STOP ??? ;)

Ooooohhhh .... I know EXACTLY where you are! Live a stones throw (well, maybe several stones) away from that area .... HWY 59, Montague County, Texas. Nice road, we enjoy it often.

All the best .... Ann

Well DUH. So does putting your hands over your eyes. :yikes:

Those are starting to appear in Florida too.
I don't understand the logic at all.

They seem to be replacing the "No Passing" signs.

I fear that is a HUGE mistake.

I use a Mobil Speed Pass when I gas up my Spyder....jump off, wave the little black wand in front of the pump and I'm ready to pump. No muss, no fuss. It is very very convenient.

Pulled into a station last week and this sign was neatly printed on the pump..

Where we go to shoot at Knob Creek, KY. It is in Bullitt Co. In Shepardsville, the school is called Bullitt Lick School.

My favorites in Alabama:

Barren Hollow Rd.
Switchblade Cir. (With a sign under saying "Dead End")

Didn't go down either road. The first seemed uninteresting, and I needed to check my Life Insurance policy for the second one.

We were on a group ride out in the country the Sunday before last and pulled off for a break. While we were standing there talking, I look up and see this sign. Had to take a picture of it.

So if you do not stop and read the historical marker signs you might miss something really interesting. It seems that Aurora, Texas has an interesting past. On April 17, 1897 an "alien spacecraft collided with the tower of Judge Proctors windmill and went to pieces with a terrific explosion." According to The Dallas Morning News as published on April 19, 1897: "The pilot of the ship is supposed to have been the only one on board, and while his remains are badly disfigured, enough of the original has been picked up to show that he was not an inhabitant of this world." We now know for certain that there are aliens. How, well it's easy: 153418153419153420153421 It's on the internet, the Texas Historical Commission put up a sign, and we know that no American Newspaper would ever publish "fake news." :)

seems the cross buck sign is explained in the Florida Driver's handbook
and the "yield" added to it is redundant

"CROSSBUCK SIGN
Crossbuck signs are found at highway-rail intersections. They are yield signs. You are legally required to yield the right of way to trains. Slow down, look and listen for a train, and stop if a train approaches. Railroad crossbuck signs are found at most crossings. If there is more than one track, the sign below the crossbuck will show the number of tracks at the crossing."

Well the northern part of the state actually has a lot of rolling hills and curvy roads.......but you would never know that just from driving THROUGH there on the Interstate on the way to Miami......where it is flat and swampy. ;)

Yes BUT my point IS that anyone that stupid (or drunk) wouldn't understand why that sign is there or what it means.
A TOTAL waste of money.

Either things have changed in the past 60 years......or my memory is failing.......or both.
I could swear that almost ALL railroad cross bucks in rural Florida used to include a stop sign.
But maybe that was Georgia.

Either way, point well taken. :thumbup:

There's a 'town' called Seldom Seen here in our High Country that is pretty much an old homestead & a couple of fuel pumps surrounded by about 10 acres covered with old 4WD's & cars on an intersection about a hundred miles from the nearest bitumen & pretty much anything else of note.... with a population of One old fella, a few galahs & rosella's that swear at everybody else, & a bunch of semi-tame Emu's, Kangaroo's, Wallabies, & Wombat's that he's rescued, treated, & rehabilitated over many years from the surrounding tracks after they've been hit by the infrequently passing traffic... but just like the birds & animals, it's his home & he's never going to leave! ;)
