Hi Cavman,

Re: Machine porn

I've always said that if I had not become a Mech. Engr. I would have liked to be a machinist.

Back in the mid-1800's, there was sort of an unofficial contest between Germany & the USA as to who was more advanced in technology. The Germans sent a piece of wire over to the USA & said that this was the finest wire ever made by man ( finest being the smallest ). Machinists in the USA drilled a hole in it & sent it back to them.

I teach how to do that kind of machining at a local technical college. I'll be using this video in my classes.

I have always admired people who knew how to do this stuff. Great video.

Before I retired from Sidel (not my choice) our division would take the molds and polish them to a mirror finish. The machinist put out such a fine finish we would start with 250 grit sanding paper along with some WD-40. Move up to 400 grit then buff for the finish.

Sidel has half the world's blow mold technology.
