The manual says it is due every 3000 miles. So does that mean 3000 miles after the initial 600 mile service? i.e. at 3600?
Or is it done at 3000?

I would say at the 3000 mile marker however i don't see were you would have a problem at 3600

No doubt I want to follow the recommendations to protect my warranty. Just seems excessive. I always say oil changes are the cheapest way to prevent costlier problems down the road, but what is the advantage of using sythentic if you have to change it almost as often as dino? I would think that full synthetic would last longer than 3000.
3000 came at a bad time. Two more nice days to ride, then comes the rain.........

During the 40+ years of riding 2 wheels, I have never changed oil before 5000 miles. And in the good old days, that was using Quaker State, regular oil. Until the Spyder I had never used synthetic. I started using synthetic blend on the previous bike before the Spyder. IMO and mine only, 3000 miles on a synthetic is a super overkill and a waste. But, for those who wish to comply for the warranty, I guess you have to follow the schedule. I will change my oil at 5000 miles, have changed to Royal Purple Max Cycle Synthetic, 10W40 and if a warranty issue occurs, then I will cross that bridge at that time. And it should only involve issues on the engine/transmission.
If anyone has missed it, I wrote a review about Royal Purple about 2 weeks ago in General Discussions.

Get the full synthetic from Brp while you can,it's being replaced by the synthetic blend. Both oils have the same part number from BRP.

Check with your dealer. After my first 600 mile service I was told my next service would be at 6000 miles.

The manual clearly states that the service is to be done at 3000 mile intervals. I don't think there is any reason to worry about 3000 or 3600 becuase the 600 miles is pretty insignificant, but I surely wouldn't wait for 6000 miles.:yikes: I can't believe that your dealer would even think to suggest that. I just hope they warranty any problems you may have from skipping the 3000 mi service.

I just dropped the oil for my 3000 miles service. Since it was changed at 600 miles, this oil has just over 2400 miles on it and is Castrol Syntec 5-40, full synthetic.
My scientific evaluation is that the oil and filter were "yucky" enough to warrant the change. Sure the oil had a gold, albeit dark gold, tint to it, but the filter looked real dark. If I took the effort and cost to have both tested, they might have some life left.
All in all, I would not have wanted to keep going another one or two thousand miles before changing it even though full synthetic should be able to. I guess in a car it may go further, but in the SM5 Spyder Roadster, it also lubricates the clutches, so that may account for less longevity.
Glad I changed it, now I have that warm fuzzy feeling knowing she is running on clean oil. Now that half the skins are off, it's time to add the lighting accessories from NMN.

Remember that your oil is also being mashed by your tranny. The sheering forces of the gears are something you don't get in an automobile application and are one of the reasons for not going the extra 2000 miles before oil changes.
