So I park in a grocery parking lot and start walking into store. I am about 30ft from my Spyder and old looking Harley dude (long white beard and hair) says to me. "looks like you lost a wheel" I smile and I laugh, yeah funny ha ha. Then he says "yeah that's a car right" "that's what your driving right? a car that lost its wheel" "its not like your riding anything else but a car".

My blood starts to boil a little. I said to him. "if you cant refrain from making a comment, then at least know what your talking about. Its a reverse trike, like a "Harley" Trike only the wheels are reversed but it doesn't brake down on the side of the road as much".

If there's a next time. Tell them you'll ride whatever they think you should be on, as long as they're willing to pay for it. With one condition, it has to have a price tag over 35K. That usually works.

Was recently at a bike show and of course had to check out the Spyder display. As I'm standing there, a guy in full HD regalia, wanders over, walks around an RT, looks around and casually swings a leg over and settles on the seat. He sits there and I can see him relax as he sits back into the comfy seat and rests his hands on the grips. Of course, me being a smart A*s, couldn't resist, so I went over, stood next to him and said, "Do your friends know you're over here and what you're doing?" He looks at me and says, "don't tell anybody, but I'd have me one of these if it only said Harley Davidson on it."

Isn't it sad what that these HD owners continue to ride, albeit uncomfortably, a bike just because it says "Harley Davidson" on it? Meanwhile, I'll ride; comfy, cozy, and relaxed on a Spyder with a big sh*t eatin' grin on my face because I know what they really wanna ride and just don't have the whoo-haas to do it.........:riding:

All my encounters with the HD group have been positive except for the comment that it looked like a snowmobile on wheels. It does. :roflblack::roflblack:

A word of advice--if they are stupid enough to make disparaging comments, I would hesitate to get into any kind of argument. Here in AK most are carrying guns and not afraid to use them.

There was a house party a day ago, where parents were away. 100 plus high school kids. That party ended in a big gunfight with over 30 shots fired--and these are high school students. If the kids have guns, you know the adults have them too. :yikes::yikes:

November 2015 I bought my 2012RTS at the local Harley dealership. I still have my Harley Road King. actually rode it a couple weeks ago. first time on it since late last summer. anywho, I ride my Spyder with other Harley owners, no problems. most of them just call it the Spaceship or the Shuttle. as for comfort, if I could still ride my Road King a lot I would. it takes a whole lot less energy to ride it than the Spyder does. my problem is arthritis in my hips and legs, which means I have trubs getting my feet down at stops sometimes. so the Harley sits in the garage 99.9 pct of the time. about the only Harley riders I would give wide berth to are the 3 piece patch groups. some are ok, but some are 1 pct'ers.

I did not call him an A*s Wipe, just was thinking it. And that is the clean version :)

I just don't understand these sort of comments, I would never make a comment to someone about a bike, car, house, shoes, clothing, tattoo or anything other item someone decided to purchased or ware. What is the point in doing so. Humans are complicated I guess.

Last summer my wife and I went 2 up on a 4 hour round trip with a friend who was riding a harley. On the way home he says that he needs to hurry home and if we don't want to keep up that would be fine. I tucked in behind him and we rode at about 80 mph home. When we got to the first set of lights in Saskatoon he waves me up and says " Man that thing goes pretty good". I smiled and said " yea it goes ok but I thought you said you were in a hurry". Since then we ride together on a regular basis.

After World War 2 Harley missed another market. During the war they produced the XA with horizontally opposed cylinders and a drive shaft. They never brought it to market. Sounds like a BMW or Goldwing, doesn't it? Maybe it ran too smoothly for them.

Why do you all get your panties in a bunch when someone teases you about riding a Spyder? Why would you even care?

I have both a Spyder and a Harley (as well as a few others). I've been teased on both and tease others to. Laugh and ride on. Ride what you want to ride, but why take it so personally? Life is WAY to short to care...

Guess it is the same reason why some bikers cant refrain from making comments. When someone is yelling across two rows of cars to "tease" you, it fails to be funny. I did laugh it off but when he persisted, yelling out 5 comments I ran out of cheeks.

When you feed the trolls of aggression you lose...instantly. Better to just ride on and not take it personally. Thicker skin. Or be quicker witted and be able to dish it out x10. Sometimes that's fun too.
I make fun of RT riders from time to time because most of them are OLD and slow. :p While it is most often true, it isn't meant as a personal attack. It's just a bit of poking fun as we all share the same sport.
I have to be honest though, most Spyder riders are right up there with BMW riders as for getting all tweaked when someone pokes fun of their ride. Just relax and ride on, it's all good.;)

If he looked like a Harley dude, was he in fact one. I have met my fair share of riders..of all shapes and sizes. First street bike I ever rode was a Harley. But personally, I would have asked what he rode, then tried to point out the uniqueness of my GS. Then I probably would have pointed out that I ride it because of my disability, the fact that I have met a great group of people who ride all sorts of bikes that have no issue with what I ride. Also that my registration says "MOT" and thats what it is..a motorcycle. As well as that BRP/Can Am helps out the Road Warriors who have been providing great men and women the ability to travel across this great country, the same country they fought for, and through BRP's generosity they can do so.
That usually leads to conversations about years riding, different bikes, places traveled etc. BUT, there are some who just dont get it..never will get it..and that, that is sad.

I respectfully disagree. I can take a lot of ribbing, I have owned a 50cc scooter for years and still do. You build up a very thick skin riding one of those. Everyone hates you. Its not a win or loose situation. This guy wanted a comment from me and I gave him one. He had nothing to say after that.

Here we go " Harley Bashing" again. Not saying this is one but a lot of people make up these kind of stories that just ain't true. I think it is the inner libido fighting with the writers conscience that he may be a lesser man riding anything that is not two wheels. This makes him hyper sensitive to a crusty Harley rider that is probably a really nice guy and just wants to make conversation and gain a friend.

If this is true you should have stopped and taken time to strike up a conversation and joshed around with the guy. Only you allow someone to make you angry. It's not him but your lack of control or your predisposed attitude about people like this that you let get under your skin. Think about it!

I like many others on this site are probably former Harley owners. As for me I totaled mine out last October when I hit a deer. After trying to line up a deal on a new 2017 Ultra Classic, they would not go where I wanted them to. So, I saved about $6000.00 and that's just in price. Saved a whole lot more in finance charges and bought my 2016 Spyder F3 Limited. My only gripe is the cost of the freaking backrests. The tires are cheaper, other accessories are moderately priced. I feel I did very well making the transition. People ask me all the time when they see me on it, how I like it, I tell them I love it and should have gotten one years ago.:doorag:

It's simply not worth engaging such people.. and you never know who's a carrying a gun these days... tons of crazies out there.... many are easy to spot with red ball caps on.... but otherwise it's hard to tell. ;)

I remember when I demoed a Spyder in 2007 when they did the demo tour with the prototypes. This HD guy showed up who I'm sure was of the opinion that no one was ever as much of a bad ass as he was. He starts in about how this isn't a MC, it's a snowmobile on wheels, etc. My comment was "so why are you here for the demo?". He just said he was curious, but if you rode up to a certain biker bar on one of these you'd get your ass beat. You know the kind of guy.

So he takes a demo ride and comes back with the biggest smile ever.. he couldn't contain it... but he still claimed it wasn't a real MC and he'd never buy one.
Back then they let us take real demos... we did burnouts and beat the $%^& out of them.

The next year after I got my 2008 GS I was out for a ride with some friends and we stopped at the exact biker bar he mentioned. Not only did I NOT get my ass beat, I drew a crowd outside as the bar crowd came out to check my ride out.

Every bike I have owned for the past 30+ years of riding has had people make negative comments from time to time. Even my Harley Ultra Classic had other riders including Harley heads make stupid comments. My mantra for dealing with these type of people is to tell them to put up or shut up. I ask them how many miles per year do they ride. Then I ask them to show me their odometers, LOW miles. My buddies both have Harleys and the best they do are 2000 miles per year but will both bust on me for not buying a real bike......go figure.

I took my Spyder to Sturgis in 2010 when they were still pretty new on the scene and has zero problems. I've ridden all over the US with my group of buds that are all on HD's and have never had a problem.. other than I get most of the attention.
While they're (my HD buds) all pretty sold on staying with 2 wheels, they have all said when they go to 3 wheels they would go with the Spyder. They also respect the power as I've always been able to dust any of them off the line... ;).

Ride what you like... like what you ride. I could care less what anyone else thinks about my ride.

Well I rode Harley's for years. Got the Harley tattoo , dog named Harley and my granddaughter is named Harley Lynn. Last bike before my 16 RT-S was a 13 anniversary edition Triglide. Buddy of mine bought a Spyder and I had always wanted to ride one. Rode it and really tried not to like it. Went back home and told my wife you need to ride this thing. Within a mile or 2 she said OMG this thing rides great !!! Three days later we traded for the Spyder. Got a couple thousand miles on it and it's been great so far. Will I stay with the Spyder , only time will tell. What I know right now is it really put the FUN back in riding. Only thing concerns me right now is the lack of dealers like Harley has and also the amount of sensors and things on the Spyder. Read post where people have theirs in the shop more than they ride then the next post someone has nearly 100k with only oil change and regular maintenance. Someday I could go back to Harley but for now we are really enjoying this ride. Like I said we ride Harley for years and don't have anything bad to say about them. Everybody I've rode with past and present are happy and I'm happy so it's all good. Chris .......

I have not had a problem with any of the groups or places that I have been, most especially from bikers or bike owners.

There was one curious issue, when I rode it to my credit union on a sunny morning last year.

I parked the Spyder, removed helmet and started toward the door.
Just as I took a step a very well dressed lady with probably 80 years of experience exited the building and walked toward me.
She said, "Hello, is that your motorcycle? It sure is pretty."
I said, "Well thank you mam, I am happy to hear that you like it."
She kept walking and looked me in the eyes and said, "What a way to waste your money!"
That the last time that I saw her, she got in her car and walked away.

Okay: there's two pretty highly inflammatory assumptions right in your paragraph... :D

So since you say that you "Never Make Assumptions": does this just make you a liar?
Or merely a fool? :dontknow:

When a real biker makes fun of my 16 RT Limited I just say I got this thing because I wanted more horsepower than my Harley Street Glide. This thing puts out a 115 HP and my Harley barely 80 HP and I wanted something that can hit 150 mph when I want to. This shuts them up, conversation over it's pretty funny cause they don't know any water.

Actually the 'strict' gun laws in Chicago were repealed in 2012. Perfectly legal to own and carry in the Windy City.

Last Saturday I was riding with a friend who has an 1100 Yamaha. At a stop a Non-rider says wow what a Harley want a bee. My friend kept walking. Later two guys sitting on BMW's make a comment about how my F3 looks like the old metermaid bikes used in parking enforcement.
So I stop and stare at them, they quite talking, I shake my head and continue walking over to the port a potty. As I enter the unit one of them said let's go he looks crazy.
I just laughed, finished my nature call and rode away.

I just don't understand why someone would be so disrespectful of another person bike.

I have owned 13 bikes since I started riding in 1980, each one had its pros and cons but they were all fun to ride. Life is to short to waste time disrespecting people or their rides.

Humans are complicated I guess.A normal person would not make a smart a--ed comment like that.
