Hello Everyone,
I have the chance to buy either a 2013 RTL for 20 grand and 17,000km or a 2015 RTL for 26 grand with 20,000 km.
I have read all the issues with the heat on the 2013 and it seems that all the corrections have been done on the 2013.
The 2015, has Lamonster swaybar , fox shocks and all the running lights have been converted to led.
I have a 2013 STS and I don't find it hot at all. I guess the question is the 2015 worth the extra 6 grand or blow the budget and go for 30 and get a
2016/17 RTS ?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated by those who know more than I do. Ive done all the homework I can and my brain hurts.
Thanks everyone for your time and thoughts.

Mike

As nice as the 2013 is: buy the one with the 1330 triple!

And the power is only the beginning of the worthwhile changes... nojoke

My 2013 RT Limited with 8,800 miles that looked brand new, no issues, all heat management done by dealer was only $15,000, $20K sounds steep unless it's still got an extended warranty included (mine didn't). 'course I bought mine at the end of last years riding season too.
I've only got about 2k miles on it since purchase before winterizing it, but definitely love the bike. As does my passenger.....<G>

:agree:

The 2015 is well worth the extra 6 grand.

I have both engines in my stable. IMO, the 1330 triple (2015) is the way to go. Better resale value (not discontinued), about 10 mpg better mileage, and a less aggressive maintenance schedule. Win, win, and win. Let us know what you decide.

Mike,
Keeping in mind that our Canadian prices are always higher than what our American friends pay, my gut feel is that the 13 for 20 thousand is too high. Even the 15 might be a bit high but apples to apples even assuming the prices are both good, Id go for the 15. The 15 with the upgrades is beneficial too and the 1330 is a great motor with much improved mileage range and other benefits.
Is there warranty left or available for the 15? Not sure if you are dealing with private sellers or a dealer.
Hopefully you can negotiate something a bit better on which ever one you choose.
Good luck,

Gary

He is in Canada so you would have to consider the relative value of the dollars. Right now a Canadian dollar is worth $1.35 in comparison to the US dollar so the $15,000 you paid times 1.35 comes to $20,250.

After trading a 2012 RT for a 2016 F3L I have to say go with the 1330. The only way I would buy the 998 is if I got a smoking deal.

I'd go with a 2015 for sure.... but both of those prices are way high. Shop things around... you can find real deals out there.
I just got my brand new 2015 F3 for less than I paid for my new 2008 GS in 2008.

If I had the $6k, I'd DEFINITELY get the newer RTL with the 1330 engine!

I would absolutely go with the 2015. It is far superior to the 2013. I've put 24,000 miles on my 2014 RTL. I sometimes ride with a friend who has a 2013... and not to put his bike down, but all of the Spyders (2013 back to the first productions) were a "work in progress", one improvement followed by another...one fix followed by another...one experiment followed by another leading up to 2014 when they took all they had learned and basically built a whole new bike...and the RT hasn't changed since then other than a tweak or two. The 2014-17's are "the finished product" so to speak.

You will love the 2015 RT. But with that said, I would encourage you to negotiate the price. I've seen far better deals than that ...at least here in the South. $26,000 is too high.

Buy the 15 (at a better price) and get out here with us. It's a great ride!
Blessings!

The only thing I like better about the 13 RT is the sound of the exhaust. The V-twin has a better sound than the 1330 but that is the only thing. If you can swing it go for the 15 RT.

One US $ is worth $1.35 Canadian.
So, one Canadian $ is worth US$.74.

Or am I confused? :dontknow:

This is correct but it fluctuates daily. Several years ago the Canadian dollar was worth more than the US dollar.

But it really isn't about currency rates or how close you are to the border. In Canada bikes and most cars/trucks just cost more and therefore used bikes and Spyders cost more too. For example, if you look at the BRP site for Canada, the RT Limited is listed as $34,999 plus prep and freight. Pretty sure that is more than the US list price.

It is worth it to go for the 15 if you can manage the money. IMHO. Get it and join up1330club!!!!

Bottom line is always your decision: But the only way I would go back to the 998 engine is if there was absolutely no other option. the 1330 is superior in unlimited ways. I had close to 75k on my 998...thought it was WONDERFUL...now have 54k on 1330 engine....it is superfantastic WONDERFUL..:yes:

One thing to consider... nojoke
As much as the vast majority of folks will tell you to get the 1330-motored RT: Keep in mind that we all started out on 998s, and they lit the fires for us!
There's is nothing so inherently wrong with a 998-RT, that it should be summarily dismissed!

I want to thank everyone for their response. The end result will be 2015 RTL. Now comes the all important finance misery.
I have to admit, the F3-T was very tempting, unfortunately if its setup to fit me, it will not fit my wife. So the RT is the best in all catagories.
I'll get a picture up here as soon as I have my hands on it.
Once again thankyou very much for all your time and answers.

I'd like to add my own two cents. I have a 2012 Can Am Spyder RT-S with just over 23,000 miles, and paid just over $12,000 for it. However, as nice as it is and as many accessories as I add to it, my wife and I will be looking to buy a 2014 or later RT-Limited. Why? Because it's smoother with three cylinders, 1330cc, more torque, more fuel efficient, and quieter. The 2012 was all that we could afford at the time, but we knew that we'd be looking at the three cylinder Limited as our eventual Spyder.
