Hi everone.... I have the chance to either buy the F3S or the STS both are 2015 new. The STS is a 993 cc and the F3S is a 1330, I really don't know much about either of them, any suggestions? When the North Dakota weather is ridable i will drive it to work about 50 miles one way and in town. Thanks for your help. Craig & Lori

You will hear a lot of opinions on both. There is the low maintenance of the 1330, along with the cruiser riding position on the F3. But then there is the much greater storage capacity of the ST (storage on the F3 is a joke). I have a RT with the 1330 and a RSS with the 998. The only way you will know which works best for you is to take an extended test ride to see which is the most comfortable. Don't let the pressure from others to choose one over the other get you down. Test them both and make your best choice. Good luck shopping.

Hi there,
I started with a 2014 ST-L and I loved it...except for the very frequent service maintenance. But I rode it a lot, so that's why I was having to take it in so often for maintenance service. I knew I wanted a 1330 and when a 2016 F3-L was available I jumped on the chance and traded. Oh my gosh what a difference!! I absolutely love love love my bike. I love the way I sit in this bike and the way it handles. It is so much different than the ST...which for me is better. Some people don't care for the positioning of the F3 so I would suggest to at least sit on both or if possible take a test ride. One might fit you better than the other. Now not only do I have longer periods between service but I can go a lot farther on a tank of gas and have a stupendous ryde to boot!!

There are quite a few others here that will give their opinions about the differences between the two engine types and the pros and cons to each. I am very mechanically challenged, I can put gas in and take it to the dealer to have service done but that is the extent of my knowledge base. But I do know a good ryde!!

Good luck with your decision and keep us posted on what you do finally choose. Cindy

Buy the 1330. It is the best buy in the long run. It is not discontinued--therefore better resale value, will get better mileage, and has a less expensive maintenance schedule. Win, win, and win.:yes:

I have both engines in my stable--like both, but like the 1330 better.

I had the st-ltd and now have f3s.

go for the f3s - providing you like the ride.

reasons
- less maintenance = way lower running costs
- proper alternator
- gearing and engine is a dream
- luggage - suggest Shad bags for brp, thru your dealer. Robust, look great and at 36L each holds a full face helmet and all the wet weather gear
- better mileage by 25% = fewer fuel stops
- way easier and cheaper to amend bars and pegs to suit your ergonomics

if you have an occasional passenger, smoothspyder make a backrest which flips forward for the rider and back for the passenger. Ultimate have both back rests. Utopia have a nice rider backrest.

Have fun

All I can add is I rode a 2017 F3 Limited and a 2016 RT Limited both semi auto's for two up I thought the RT was better, and checking thing with advice from this fourm. I chose the RT both had the 3 cylinder engines, my wife has a ST S5E with the 998 and you can really feel the difference between the two the RT is better. I'm sure when I get my RT home the wife will enjoy it, but that would mean I'm on the ST :dontknow:

Awesome choice. Congrats.
There are a few side case options you can get to get a good amount of storage.

I went with a set of GIVI r35 bags with custom mounts from MBL innovations. Photos enclosed 145020145021
But someone out here has mounted an eBay kit of some bags that are priced really good on eBay, doubt the quality is as good at the Givi, but might be worth a shot: http://m.ebay.com/itm/231854436544?_mwBanner=1
