This is definitely an issue that you should take up with your State Officials...
If they don't raise taxes: they raise the fees! :cus::cus::gaah::cus: :cus:

Warning, warning, warning--out of state fishing and hunting licenses have doubled in cost for 2017. And, they were not cheap to start with.

The gov confiscated half of everyone's PFD payment in 2016. That cost me $1022.00. They are using it to pay for the over $3 Billion Budget deficit because of low oil barrel prices they get very large taxes off of.

A sign of the times, and it has nothing to do with the President elect or standing President.

Governor is going bye bye at the end of his term and we have already booted several state legislators. :roflblack:

Property Tax right? The flip side is you pay less sales tax up front. It is like that here in NC and FYI... The Dems controlled both the state legislature and the state house for years and never changed it. It works out in the long run if you keep your vehicles a long time.

Must be one hell of a camper... My new rig only cost me $200 in property tax+tags this year.

Taxes..........Fees.......... What is the difference?

Both are money taken from us by the government to allow us to enjoy life that is our inherent right to enjoy without having to pay for it!

:agree: It all comes down to how your State decides to pick your pocket...
How much do you pay for Land and School taxes?
We get a bill from our Town, AND a bill from our School district. Together; they total over $5000...
The bike only costs me $36 to register.

WTF difference does it make who is President? It is a state issue. Want to cry? Move to VA where we pay about $85 to register, and $400+ for personal property tax. I paid $1600 for personal property tax on my Audi this year, $1000 on my Mercedes and $560 on my BMW motorcycle. Plus the $85 or so each for registration. Oh, and while I am at it, over $6k in house taxes.

Whining about a $13 difference?

At least with the Spyder you only register it once (per year). Sleds have to be registered (or a trail pass) in every state you operate (plus it's a short season).

Wouldn't give it up though.

Bob,

My Property tax on the house is one bill that includes the Property tax, School tax and garbage pickup... House assessed at $151k... That bill is Just over $1600 for everything.

Doesn't North Carolina use it's vehicle registrations as a mechanism for funding itself?
Here in New York: vehicle registrations (for cars and trucks) don't take into account the value of the vehicle: they are based upon vehicle weight.
Odd: isn't it?

...they are based upon vehicle weight...

I could understand going by vehicle weight if they are trying to recoup costs for wear and tear on highways. I have to admit that I am still a bit miffed for having to pay the same tolls for a Spyder and trailer that a dually pickup and a maxed out trailer pays on the NY toll roads.

Bob,

I'm from NY originally. NY charges you full sales tax up front, where as NC does not. I believe in NY the weight is used to determine the difference between general passenger vehicles and say, F-250's on up?

In NC if towing anything other than a small utility trailer or camper you have to pay yearly for weighted tags and you pay for the weight range you need. We do pay a registration fee in addition to the property tax. For new registrations there is a one time $155 dollar highway use tax.

Overall I think we make out cheaper as you can keep your vehicle typically longer down here and have less winter/salt/sand caused maintenance items. If you keep your vehicle longer the property tax flat lines at a certain amount as your vehicle isn't worth as much. I had my last truck 13 years... and no rust on it.

I do think the cost of living is cheaper here than say NY or other northern states based on my experience of living in NY. There are also far more opportunities here for employment than where I was from and the pay is better overall... Net win for most of us here in NC.

Living in Arlington, I never understood how they justify that but was told VA state tax is so low they have to make up the difference. Ha! Even tried registering my car in DC. Heard of all sorts of schemes about parking elsewhere but they-will-find-you. Came to $1800 for my LandRover!

From what I have read here I am not in bad shape, I was not complaining but Taxes here in North Jersey is the highest in the country on property tax. These days I am trying to convince the wife its time to move south. A state with no income tax is preferable . New jersey just raised taxes on gas by 20 cents and property taxes by 1000.00 that's up from the 800.00 the year before so I know its much cheaper to live south. wife's a jersey girl to the core. Any one here from Florida, if so pm my inbox I have some questions thanks.

Don't know about spyder registration yet but I got the Notice from my mortgage company. You owe escrow for 2016 and mortgage payment up for 2017 due to property tax rate hike. I love how they wait until the end of the year and give you a bill for hundreds of dollars.

The annual notice usually gives options.

1. Pay the under estimated amount in full--payment on mortgage PITI remains the same.

2. Pay the increased mortgage amount and it covers everything without having to pay up the "arrears."

You can thank the insurance companies and your municipal representatives who have no problem with spending "your" money for new and better toys and benefits. The mortgage company bases their escrow on the previous year. If the muni makes changes--they have to get the shortage the next go around.

The only thing sure these days are death and taxes. And...they will also get you when you die. :yikes: http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/images/smilies/roflblack.gif (javascript:void(0))http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/images/smilies/roflblack.gif (javascript:void(0))
