 The radioactive remnants of the Fukushima disaster have arrived!

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2016/12/09/fukushima-radiation-has-reached-united-states-shores/95188478/

Can anyone explain how much of a problem (if any...), this poses to our Western shores? :dontknow:

Cesium 134 is a very common radioisotope, and has a very short half life.

"Stable cesium is not likely to affect the health of children, but large amounts of gamma radiation, from sources such as radioactive cesium, could damage cells and might also cause cancer. Short exposure to extremely large amounts of radiation might cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bleeding, coma, and even death.Jan 21, 2015"

The levels we are seeing is not much above ambient radiation.

Darn! Now I know why I have been glowing green at night. We are very West Coast and have received much debris from the Tsunami. It literally lines the coasts and they have been working on the clean up for a while now.

Add in the elements of contaminated water and possible natural disasters that go hand in hand and we could all have a problem.

I don't know if directly related, but we have had unexpected die offs of Puffins (large shorebirds), seals, and a major decrease in the King Salmon runs the past couple years. The paradise salmon fishing on the Kenai Peninsula is a thing of the past. A couple towns that depend on the annual tourist fishing-- have had a very hard time of it of late.
