My Spyder is in the shop right now for two problems: a leaking airbag system, and a passenger detector problem. The mechanic called tonight to let me know that he found rat poop and insulation damage under the left passenger handle panel. :yikes:

He's pulling the rear section off tomorrow to get to the airbag system. He'll let me know what he finds, and if it's rodent damage to the wires or airlines, the warranty is not gonna cover it. Ouch. :(

There's a switch under the pillion that tells the stability system to use a higher CG when a passenger is onboard. If the switch goes bad or the wires get shorted to ground, an orange screen lights up and says "Detecteur Passager" and Nanny gets real touchy if only the ryder is on. A real PITA to fix.

Is anything ever quick and inexpensive on these?

Ever wonder why wire insulation is so "tasty" to rats? Here in the "Old Pueblo" we have a severe Pack Rat problem. I leave a light on and a small cheap radio on in my garages and my hanger. They like neither. So far it has worked for me.

Jack

Well Jack---- Why do rats eat electrical insulation??

Because the plastic insulation has a filler in the plastic mix that is made from either peanut husks or soy beans. Dinner with a shocking experince:yikes:

Also thier main front teeth never stop growing and they have to knaw on all sorts of stuff keep'em short.

Rats and mice do cause :::::::::::::::::: Kaos:)

Ahh-huh, I have awakened some brilliant minds. Great come backs guys and gals. Don't ya just love it

when someone talks about something other than tires and oil.

Picking up a Can Am Maverick next Tuesday and retiring my WR250R for the winter. I will follow up with a

"newby" report. I just love new ventures!

Ha! I should be so lucky!

The estimate is $1,075. The varmints chewed into the wire harness and wrecked the wires to both the pillion switch and the compressor. They are going to submit the claim for the compressor to RPM-One in the hope that they will cover it because it was leaking before the rodent problem, but I'm not holding my breath. :gaah:

For a thousand bucks I could buy a cherry picker to lift off the rear section myself and still have $800 in my pocket. This really bites.

Check with your bike insurance company. This happened to our truck and it was covered! $2,700.

Last night about midnight I submitted the claim to Foremost Insurance Company. 8:00 AM this morning the adjuster called me, then he called the service department for the estimate, then he approved it and shot me a direct deposit for $919! I have a $500 deductible, but I'll gladly pay that instead of $1,419!!

I am impressed. I was afraid they would turn out to be a fly-by-night outfit, but I was wrong.

Rodents love nice dark places to build a nest. You wouldn't believe the damage they do to lawn mower engines. Bounce dryer sheets stuffed into areas that the little suckers can get into will deter them. I hate mice! :banghead:

Even thought I don't use them for my PowerSports customers; they are about as far from "Fly-by-night", as an insurance company can be!

I had a mouse problem in my garage a few months ago. I purchased these and haven't seen one (or droppings) since.

Well, not quite. I'm selling it. The trade-in value was not so great, and the dealership suggested I list it. If it doesn't sell in a month or so, I'll probably consign it.
